Secular music compatible with Christian world view

"Muswell Hillbillies", "Misfits", "Everybody's in Show Biz" are all good.

"Songs We Sang For Auntie" is my favorite of all of the anthologies, of which there are many.

I guess the most obvious example would be The Who.

Out of curiousity, what about "Turn Turn Turn" by The Byrds? They stole it from the Old Testament, but I really love that song.

 

I don't know. Maybe but it's kind of hard to make that argument when they were kind of an outsider band to begin with.

I loved that song and I still get it stuck in my head every now and then. It might not have been a great Kinks song, but it was a great song.

I was in a band in jr high school in Toms River and we did "Come Dancing".

The chorus of Julie Miller's song, "I'm Thru With You (Dear John Letter to the Devil)" is identical to the chorus of "Come Dancing". Everytime I hear it, I always unconsciously insert "the day they knocked down The Palace, my sister stood and cried..."

 

Hey, speaking of which, am I the only one who noticed how eerily similar "Come Dancing" was to Nick Lowe's "Half a Boy and Half a Man"?

But shouldn't a Godly women submit to her husband even if she disagrees? Seeing that by doing so she is not denying scripture.

 

Yes, she should but don't forget that He has a responsibility here, as well.

The Bible gives her the liberty to make her own mind up in matters of conscience, particularly trivial matters such as this and for him to dictate such areas as what kind of music she's allowed to enjoy isn't loving her as Christ loved the church (not that he doesn't do that - I'm sure this is just a blind spot in this one area), it's excerising a power play over her.

 

He is trying to be a spiritual leader and keep worldly influence out of the home. That sounds like the love of Christ if you ask me.

 

Being a spiritual leader does not mean ruling with an iron fist to the point that you dictate someone else's behavior, particularly not behavior that the Bible doesn't condemn. If it's good enough for God, it ought to be good enough for the husband.

First; Worldly music with a 'christian' world view? Wow! this will date me. How about QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE; "Pride of Man"?
It's been a while but a couple lines quickly come to mind....

After all these years: many, many songs I did drugs to are still stuck in my head. Man I hate that.
And secondly; a comment about wifely submission.
Show me where Paul, Jesus, Peter, John, Moses, David, or God the Father said, "ye wives, submit to your husbands as unto the Lord except when you don't like it".
Someone has rightly said, submit to your husband, he will answer to the Lord. If he is wrong, he is wrong unto the Lord. YOU are called to obey Him.(both Him, Jesus, and him, hubby) This is a command of the Lord Jesus. Therefore, if you submit, even if you do not like it, you will be in essence obeying the Lord and will be rewarded for obedience. If your husband is wrong, then he will be punished somehow. But the issue you raised is not one of obedience, IMO it was simply one where you were seeking approval for what (apparently) the Holy Spirit has revealed to you to be wrong. Didn't you say you feel bad when listening to your music when hubby is away? This indicates you KNOW it to be wrong and are under conviction for it. A word of advice. Do right. Deny yourself and follow me. (I read that somewhere) tee hee...

One of the songs I get to sing with my band is Buddy Miller's "My Love Will Follow You". In addition to the great message of the song, I speak during one of the instrumental breaks. What I say is a paraphrase of Matthew 18 and Romans 5:8. It fits very nicely with the lyrics. Here they are with my words in italics:
