What guitar do you play? What music do you like?

One of the most awesome musical experiences of my life was about 4 years ago when my wife and I went to see Phil Keaggy. I have been aware of his talent for years, and have a boatload of his recording, but I was totally un-prepared for what I encountered that night.

He was all by himself, no band. He used a processor to literally create the backup music for his extended solos right during the song.

He would loop a certain chord progression from the song to back himself, then he would tap on his guitar and put that in for percussion, then he would ring a triangle and have that repeat every 4th beat of so.

Then he would take off with his solo, with the "backup band" being himself!

And of course we all know his ability as a lead guitarist. It was simply amazing.

I currently play a Yamaha APX-96 LTD A/E and a Schecter Blackjack 006 through a Crate GFX 120 amp.
I also have an Epiphone acoustic but rarely use it.

I generally accompany myself with the Yamaha in church doing an occassional special. I would love to get involved with a band but my work schedule just doesn't allow it right now.

I really enjoy Casting Crowns, MercyMe, FFH, Kutless, and so many more I can't name them all...

 

Samick 6 string, 60's re-issue foto-flame Jap Strat, Samick 12 string. Took that photo next to computer, usually an old dog "Kumika" (whatever that is ) leaning there....oh, and there's a ¼ size in my room for showing Sunday school kids some (of my limited) guitar tricks

When I want to annoy people with them I plug in through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe...ear plugs won't help when that thing lets rip


Looks like all these foreigners still need an edjamakashun on what a great guitar player is though... The title of world's best is a tie between Tommy Emmanuel C.G.P. (to quote Chet Atkins "I think he’s probably the greatest finger-picker in the world today" 'nuff said? ) and Phil Emmanuel

Then feel free to add to the list other greats like Knopfler, Clapton, Hendrix, Page, May, Young, Young, Gilmour....

 

I'm not really playing out, right now, except just to sitin with friends' bands or a fund raiser, here and there.

When I do, I'm usually using my Valiant, with a Parsons White bender, a '65 Tele, or a '72 Strat, one of the first guitars I ever bought.

As for acoustic, I'm playing a Pennco D-35, which is a low end Martin model. I could be wrong, but I think they were originally sold through the Sears & Roebuck catalog.

It's supposed to be a low end model, but it's as good as any Martin I've ever played. Other than the name on the headstock, you would never be able to tell the difference.

I also have a Martin D-28, but with the Pennco, I don't use it much.

 

How was he? Like the NGDB? That song they did, Mr. Bojangles, I used to think was corny when I was a kid. Fortunetly, we grow out of kidhood and come to our senses.

The part about the old mans dog dying, and "after 20 years he still grieves" gets to me every time I hear it now.

Did they do that one?

Never heard of him. But i'll do some checking. There is no way in my mind that he could be better than Phil Keaggy, though.

Ok. I just listened to some of his music, and I do really like it. It is gonna take a lot of convincing though, for me to say he is better than Phil.
