"Church Hymnal" question

    Does anybody know if there are orchestrations available for this Hymnal?
    also, does the Tennessee Music and Printing Company still print them? I know they are still published, just haven't seen a new one. Our pastor is thinking of switching to them for the church, and we have a small orchestra that would need the music transposed.

    Gayla is talking about the "Church Hymnal." That's the name of the Church of God hymnal. Many Baptist churches in north GA use it. It is a great book if you have a lot of people in your church who can read music. A lot of the songs have each part singing at different times and different rhythms. Basically convention music. Gayla, another option might be the Free Will Baptist hymnal. I don't know the name of it but I understand it very good. We use the Rejoice Hymnal by the same company but it is out of print. I was told that it is similar to the FWB hymnal. Maybe 30 or songs different. Our hymnal has a big variety. A lot more "Baptist" songs from the Baptist Hymnal and the Broadman. From Majesty to Kneel at the Cross to Living By Faith and I'll Meet You in the Morning. And a few praise choruses. Also a lot more songs than th Church Hymna. Over 600.

    I did find that it's now published by Pathway Press, it's in Cleveland, TN, so the name/ownership may have changed over the years.
    I thought the same thing about all the parts singing. I can do it, but I've been reading music for 30 years.
    But most of our folks can't and unfortunately many show no desire to do so.

    I looked up the Free Will Baptist Hymnal, and the cover has
    Free will Baptist Hymnal and underneath that was the word Rejoice.
    Maybe the name was changed? (Just speculation on my part.)I'll probably look at it again.

    Ours only has "The Rejoice Hymnal" on the cover but I thinks its the same. Just a newer edition.

    You're talking about the 'redback', right? It is published right here in Cleveland, TN, by Pathway Publishing (TN Music is a division of Pathway).

    Lifter,

    Miss Irene had a stroke today - she was at a Gideon convention and was taken to the ER in Columbus. That's all we really know at this point - but we'll probably be seeing her very soon. I am praying that any side effects wont inhibit her piano playing!

    We use the Rejoice Hymnal originally published
    by the freewill Baptists. I get requests constantly on where to find more. Does anyone know if the Freewill version or the more generic version (missing the denomination specific songs)is still being published? I've been told "no" but would like to find some.

    I am pretty sure Church of God and Baptists are singing a lot of the same old hymns
    you probably will not find an orchestration of a hymnal but I could be wrong however I dont think so.

    what I suggest is that you get the Great hymns of Faith orchestrations copyrighted by Singsperation music published by Zondervan Corp.

    there are 3 seperate Orchestrations which one covers Treble clef insturments in C
    Bass Clef Insturments and
    the other covers Treble Clef insturments in Bb

    We have The Celebration Hymnal,(for the Orchestra only-we play from that if it's in there. nobody knows but us.)which is a True Orchestration. You have a choice of playing the melody or the orchestration, which is sometimes harmony and sometimes different. The other clarinetist and myself are usually the only ones attempting that part. ;) But when we get it, it sounds good! :D

    We currently use the Soul Stirring Hymnal for the congregational singing, and they publisher (Sword of the Lord) is working on orchestrations. Four part harmony printed for the different keyed instruments. I've been eagerly waiting it's release, then the new preacher starts wanting to change to the 'redback' Church Hymnal.
    That reminds me, I need to compare songs in the Soul Stirring and the Church Hymnal.
