I got a wooden (Rosewood) clarinet last week! And I'm wondering about the care of a wooden instrument. I've read about a 'breaking in' period, how important is this? I have a cousin who has played professionally for 20 or more years, and she's never heard of a 'break in' period.
How about oiling the bore? How often should this be done?

I played the new instrument at church Sunday, and the other clarinetist said the high notes sounded much better than with the plastic one. (Which was the reason for buying the new one. ;) )

    Thanks Dale,

Wish I had known about the Zachary Music site last summer, when some friends bought their daughter her first clarinet. They called me asking how to put it together. That is a great page. Every music teacher should know about that one!

    My wife is the Clarinetist
but she keeps the spit wiped out of the inside after playing and eeps some sort of wax on the corks to keep them from drying out.

    Where are the music teachers/musicians?

I've been playing for 30 years, but have never had a nice wooden instrument. I want to care for it properly.

ewww, the clarinet why not take up a more useful insturment, such as trumpet.... I personally like that one.

It takes more skill to play a clarinet than to play the trumpet

as far as usefulness you cant dig a ditch with either insturment but both sound beautiful if in the hands of some one who knows how to play
