A Mighty Day

    Our retarded 20 year old son loves to listen to music, so some is almost always going in his room. This morning, because I am on some new medication that makes me dizzy, we are home from church and Barry let me sleep in. When I got up, and went out to the kitchen, I saw that he had an old Chad Mitchell Trio collection on in Chris' room (which is off the kitchen),which we got on a CD earlier this year. As I was sipping my tea, he asked, of one song, "What are the words to that? I can't get them." I couldn't either, so I looked the song up on the net and we stared at it, stunned. Here are the lyrics to "A Mighty Day"

    Thank you for sharing this, Helen. It is amazing how God uses music and many other tools to speak into life's circumstances and tragedies.

    It seems to me to be not glorifying God at all, really.

    Doesnt it seem to be basically blaming God for a great tragedy? God is only even mentioned once.

    Im not familiar with this group....are they a Christian group?

    I think my perplex was at Aaron's response. I am surmising that he thought I was thinking it was a Christian song. I certainly did not think that. I just thought of the irony of the words in light of the national tragedy. Though the message is dark, it can be a pointer to arrest our attention and possibly (and I stress that word) get us thinking about the larger issues of life. From there our thinking can go in either direction, good or bad.

    That is the origin of "amazing how God uses music" comment.

    I hope this sheds a little light on the matter, particularly for Aaron. [​IMG]

    It's not a Christian group or a Christian song per se, but like many folk songs from the 1960s, it carries somewhat of a Christian message. The message here being one of realizing our powerlessness and God's control.

    The Chad Mitchell trio was a folk group much like the Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, and the Four Seasons. My father has an LP of there's. The main song on it is "The Marvelous Toy" (a song that Peter, Paul and Mary sang as well). John Denver was once a part of the Chad Mitchell Trio. I've been thinking of the song "Mighty Day" this week. I have a cousin in Houston and another one in Galveston. Hurricane Ike makes this song very real.

    The hurricane again makes me wonder about the the signs of the end days. There's been tremendous flooding in the midwest (I live in Iowa,) in the past 15 years, there have been the hurricanes (Katrina, Ike, Andrew), there was the Tsunami in southern Asia a couple years ago. Has there been a significant increase in disasters in the past 25 years or is it just that there has been more coverage with 24 news networks?
