    so tell me SFIC... which notes on a guitar are ungodly? is it the E? the A? how about the F#m?

    OK, one point you all should know when arguing against these people; it's not particular notes they are saying are bad. It is basically rhythms, rhythm accents, (odd or even, as in the backbeat)and the prominence rhythm and harmony have in comparison to melody, which is what they are saying should be most prominent. (That's basically what gives the old hymns their distinctive "dry" feel, like the simple songs they taught you in nursery or grammar school). It is also drawn along the lines of culture, with Western "classical" on one hand, and non-Wesern "rhythmic" styles on the other.
    Knowing this will help both sides from talking right past each other.

    The truth is, while songs for congregational singing perhaps should be more focused on the melody, people are making general statements trashing the other styles altogehter, and this has not biblical bases.

    oh. ok. so its the rythym. the syncopated rythms. i get it now.

    ya know... dont hymns have rythm? i mean... i tap my feet to them all the time. i can't help it sometimes even. they're just so fulfilling to the flesh. i want more of them. hmmm... where can i get some flesh fulfilling rythmic hymns?

    i actually made a song that's got rythm to it... just a mix of a whole bunch of loops... i wonder if that's ungodly...

    well what gets me is - why do they think that we would put it in the service in the church? its for personal worship. its a type of personal worship to God almighty.

    again. if satan can use music to spring up fleshly desires - how much more can God use music to spring up Godly desires?

    Yeah, hymns have rhythm, and even some syncopation at times, but it is very limited as to not be "funky", or the harmonies (chordal structure) "jazzy". Also, the backbeat, with the harder beat accented on 2 and 4, even though the music itself is generally still accented on 1 and 3 if you listen behind the beat.
    Ridiculous to be making such an issue out of that, isn't it; as totally uncovered by scripture those criteria are.

    Well, that's rather convenient. Others could jusitfy it through their testimony of standing against your version of the truth.

    and so can the Godly christian artists putting out their music.
    if you want to play that side of the "game" that is.
    they can justify using hip-hop through their testimony of the Truth.

    it comes down to the heart of the person.

    is it the beats or the lyrics that make the music?
    i would pick neither.
