If you are a husband of one wife; are you male or female?

Just wondering; my wife has always been a female. She was pronounced my wife the day we married; I was pronounced her husband the day we married; I have always been male.

How is this confusing? Except that, as said in another post, political correctedness is more popular to serve than Christ.

    God Bless.

    YES BRO.Dallas
I am married one wife our 39th wedding anv. is dec.7th.this year,Christ is the boss in our home,if I told my wife to do what she is told, she would only laugh at me.And when girls get married these days the DONT SAY LOVE HONOR AND OBEY,those days are gone,we now live in an age when women are educated and demand to be treated as equals. And so they should be.
All ladies in my eyes are ANGELS.

There's a lot of things I think about--women preachers are not one of them! I don't think much about 'um in the pulpit. When I hear of one who has taken a church--it just gives ole Blackbird incentive to "preach a little harder!"--sooner or later I'll be preaching so hard that the little woman--ain't no way she can keep up with ole Blackbird in the pulpit!!!!

I have nothing against women. My mother and my wife are both women. My wife and I have been married for 14 yrs Dec. 23.

We are satisfied the Scriptures always meant for a man to preach and never a woman. Just because some people want to align Christian beliefs and practice with the secular world doesn't mean it is correct.

It is true there are historical instances in the Jewish religion where women assumed leadership roles; (Deborah); I also remember reading where Jewish women were instrumental in keeping and teaching their religion to the young during the Spanish Inquisition, a time when Jews were being forced, along with others to recant their faith and adhere to the R.C.C. or face death. During this time, many male Jews succumbed to the pressures, yet the women persisted in teaching the youth in the homes and in secret. I would not deny God is able to use women, but I would assert if women are being used as such, it is because men are not where they should be. Wherever this is occurring, (in New Testament Churches) I believe that body is nearing the point, if not already arrived, at having its candlestick removed from out of its place. Whether this is popular or not, I suspect not, but I am not a politician and am not seeking a popular, nor an electoral vote.

    God Bless.

The Apostle Paul certainly did not allow for female elders. We can suggest that his instruction is culture bound and needs revision, but not that the NT condones women in the pastorate.

Let's also realize that the "culture bound" argument cuts in many directions. The homosexual issue is a prime example. This is not to say we should scrap it. But we do need to be sure that we are not just capitulating to our environment.

At the same time, "no women elders (pastors)" does not mean "no women ministry". It would be difficult to argue against women deacons, and in many instances they would serve better than men (when the service in question involves other women). There is no reason that they could not counsel other women in an official capacity. There is no reason that they cannot be involved in the work of evangelism, or in superintending roles. In fact, we need to give women more place in ministry than we have (I speak of the church as a whole). I know some who would be bothered by femamle ushers. Why? Or women serving at the communion table. Upon what bibilcal grounds? Or a women song leader. Why is that wrong scripturally? However, I can't personally see women as elders (pastors). I am not prepared to relegate Paul's teaching and the universal practice of the church (until recently) to culture on this issue. It has nothing to do with my view of women, but with my view of Scripture.

Finally, let's remember that a distinction in role or function does not mean inequality - unless Jesus is not equal to the Father. But that's another issue. ;)

    Hey, Presbyteros!

On the bottom of your post you "winkingly" stated the issue of Jesus equalling the Father!

Brother! Don't wink at us when you say that! Look at us with eyes wided open and say that Jesus equals the Father! "He who has seen Me hath seen My Father!"

    Hi Blackbird,

Sorry 'bout that. I wasn't winking about Jesus being equal to the Father. I was winking at the fact that the issue was another topic. The topic would deal more with subordination than equality (i.e. God being the head of Christ, the "Father is greater than I" etc.), about theocentric vs. Christocentric perspectives and so on.

But, that really is another topic. ;)

    God Bless.

As I was flipping through this thread tonight, something by weeping prophet on Page 4 struck me: if a woman pastors a church, would she not inadvertently transcend her husband as the spritural leader of the household which is his duty?

I honestly fee uncomfortable under the leadership of even a great woman pastor simply because of the Paul said that a woman shall not teach men (She teaches when she pastors and preaches).

With that in mind if I were married and if my wife decided that God called her to serve as pastor, I would dissuade because she would usurp my role as the spirtual leader. A woman pastoring would church serving as a student to her husband sounds illogical.

Still studying and praying on this subject,

There's not a single biblical context that forbids a woman from being a pastor.

There are some single verses that IMPLY that a pastor should be male, but when taken in context, the implications become less apparant.

So the question is: "How do you feel about pastors who are women?"

I feel bad about it. Just think about the Episcopalian church. They started with women pastors, and where are they now.

Generally, congregations who invite women to be pastors, have to justify it by reinterpreting some "traditionally misunderstood" passages of the Bible. Once you start reinterpreting the Bible, where do you stop?

I once had an argument about women pastors with someone from PC-USA. I told her about my "slippery slope" theory, and that we could return to our discussion in 10 years. I said that it was quite possible that it 10 years PS_USA would ordain homosexuals. We will see in 2009.

That was the same arguement many well-meaning Baptists (and other Christians) were using to argue against allowing blacks and women to vote.

Anyway, this thread is not meant for arguing this or that way, but is just meant to express how we feel about the issue.

I believe that in various places the Bible makes it clear that men should lead... This is shown in the marriage, and home life... as well as discussions of qualifications for leadership positions. The pattern is set. Unfortunately, men have increasingly abdicated the responsibility of leadership in the home and are also doing it in the Church. This is causing the breakdown of the family society and churches.

In all fairness, the issue of women at the pulipt has been argued in this manner and documented since the early 1850's, when women were asserting their rights to exist in society as men did. That included the right of women to vote, the right of women to work, own property, and be preachers.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
    Galations 3:28

The distinctions between male and female are not important when it comes to serving Christ.
