Assuming you had just one Bible as your only book (on the proverbial desert isle, with Gilligan), which single-volume study Bible would you choose?

I have four favorites and would be hard pressed.
    KJV Old Scofield
    NIV Study Bible
    NKJV MacArthur Study Bible
NKJV New Geneva (Reformers) Study Bible

Having grown up with the first, I'd probably be partial to my trusty Scofield.

    How about you all?

Study Bible???? Haven't used one in a long time. I have several on the shelf. I preach on Sundays from a Cambridge Concord KJV. On Wed. nights I normally use my Oxford Wide Margin KJV.
My experience would lead me to hold on to a Thompson Chain Reference if that was all I could have....that or the Hebrew Greek Key Study Bible. They are my picks.

Mine is the New Open Bible in the KJV, it's a good study Bible from Thomas Nelson. I received one form my Pastor when I was Ordained and after almost reading the covers off I found a new one just like it two years ago. I keep the ragged old faithful at my desk at home and the shiny new one at Church, it has alot of information and if pressed with only one book I would choose it.

Probably the NASB Study Bible (NIV Study Bible notes with NASB translation). Close second would be New Geneva and the Disciple's Study Bible (Holman).

I would also choose the Thompson, if I had no other reference libarary. That is the one I use on travel. Nothing beats a NIV Thompson handy size when lonly at the hotel room.

At home when I have a small study library I do not use the Thompson that much. The study Bible used most at home is the Scofield in NASB. But the Thompson it is the best way for finding things in the Bible and study a subject.

KJV Scofield was my original but I would probably choose a Dake's. I disagree with a lot of what he says but he definitely gets you thinking.

I've never been a huge fan of study Bibles, but I have to say, the new ESV Study Bible is very nice.

    Ryrie Study Bible NASB

    MacArthur SB

    Old Scofield

    Zondervan NASB SB

I just wish publishers would use high quality leather when they produce
a Bible these days. The MacArthur is a fine study Bible but has some of the worst Genuine leather I have ever seen. I have no problem spending money for my Bibles but I do expect them to last.

My NKJV Believer's Study Bible, edited by WA Criswell. It's no longer in print. It briefly returned as the baptist Study Bible, but that is also out of print.

I have the Study Notes in my Quickverse program.

Thompson for sure. I have discipled a lot of young fellows over the years, and the first thing I have them do is to get a Thompson. You can tell who has cut his teeth on the Thompson, because they always have lots of cross-references in their head and ready to use, no matter what the topic. The Thompsons I have bought have had excellent covers and durability

Second is MacArthur for sure, but you guys are right about the cover being substandard. When the NAS MacArthur came out, I got a hardback.

    1. Ryrie Study Bible
    2. Thompson Chain Reference Bible

If only one I would have to say my kjv thompson as it is really helpful in cross referencing when preparing my sermons. Just wish the print was larger.

Without question I would take my wide margin large print NIV Thompson Chain Referrence if I really had to choose just one. I would cry many a tear over leaving behind the others I use regularly though... ESV Scofield, NIV Study bible, and King James Study Bible...

I'm liking my ESV study Bible...not the translation so much, but the notes.

amg publisher greek hebrew keyword study bible nasb translation
mac arthur study bible nkjv translation

I would prefer both... I like to compare translations and would be hard pressed to choose just 1.. I carry both with me most of the time so I would pray that both would be available.

There are two study Bibles that I use a lot and like for different reasons:

    1. Ryrie KJV - The Ryrie has good sound notes and lots of in-text helps like maps and charts. I find Charles Ryrie's notes to be pretty sound for the most part.

    2. New Defender's Study Bible - I have always liked Henry Morris, I don't agree with everything he says, but I love his notes. I just like the way his mind works. In spite of that the Defender's does not have as good a layout as the Ryrie and lacks the in-text helps. There are also 21 articles in the back that are quite interesting.

I wouldn't trade either of these two for anything.

I also have a Thompson Chain Reference, but I never really use it.
