    Find word study books/sets to be of great value. Of course, Vine is now the classic. But have Wilson on the OT words, Trench on synonyms, and Wuest.

    AT Robertson's Word Pictures in the Greek NT is a classic.

    Also have an assortment of dictionaries - Baker's Dictionary of Theology, ISBE, a number of Bible dictionaries, and the classic American College Dictionary (ACD) that is to modern English what Oxford is to those muddling through Shakespeare (or the KJV).

    I would say dictionaries (ISBE, ZPEB, EDT, etc.). Although I have an assortment of lexical works (TDOT, TDNT, EDNT, NIDOTTE, NIDNTT, TLOT, TLNT) I find that most lexical info necessary for preaching is covered in good commentaries. If I started pullign those off the shelf every week, my long sermons would become longer ... and that would be a problem.
