    That's an extremely loaded question. The NT forbids female eldership. Therefore, it would seem unlikely God would "bless" or "grow" a church that has unScriptural leadership. That being said, our modern definitions of "blessing" and "growth" discomfit the whole matter. But even in the midst of such, God still sees fit to draw people to faith in Him and mature His people as He accomplishes His purposes.

    Do you like how I answered a loaded question with a loaded answer? :D

    Please forgive me for my ignorance, but would someone show me scriptures for why a woman SHOULD be a Pastor or explain why the scriptures many have referred to (in previous posts) are either interpreted or translated incorrectly?
    What I'm getting at is, what proof does anyone have that a woman can be a Pastor?
    (I apologize if this "hijacks" the thread)

    The group to which I belong, will not ordain women, nor permit them to become pastors. Blessing is not a sign of approval. Sometimes God uses us despite us. We are not the source of blessing; it is the Holy Spirit.

    On the other hand, we read the scripture, when it came to foreign mission fields, "Here am I, Lord; send her......." Female missionaries and childrens workers far out number the males.

    The rationale is there for female pastors, but the scriptures are not. Is God telling us something? Is it not time for men to become more responsible before God regarding service? Sometimes I go to a church and think that I am addressing the Women's Missionary Society. They far outnumber the men in the congregation. Still, demographics do not a doctrine make. We need to remedy the situation. We need to capture the male youth with the gospel of grace, and the message of mission.

    God bless the women who hold forth the word of truth in these dark days. I might add, that I am of two minds on this subject, and my weaker mind just might prevail for the Kingdom's sake.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    You may want to consult with the other moderator, but that question may be more suited for the theology forum.

    Just my opinion, but.......I agree that women shouldnt be in the pulpit as pastors. I also believe that if we as the men of the church were to step up to the plate and accept the responsibility of leadership of His church that God himself placed upon us, There wouldnt be room in the the pulpit for a woman pastor. ;)

    AMEN big Al!
    I don't beleive God is gonna USE her, cause He is specific that a woman isn't suposed to have authority over man and is to be silent in church...someone might get saved under her if she preaches {oh I hate the words SHE and PREACHES in the same sentance! :eek: }any part of the gospel. I know personaly a pastor who got saved reading a book by a charismatic, but when he read the scriptures in the book, he got convicted, and asked God to save him...and today he's a great pastor who stands for God's word.
    OH and Jim you said:, "Here am I, Lord; send her......." Female missionaries and childrens workers far out number the males."

    And I think maybe the reason for that is women are more emotional than men and more tenderhearted {MOST of the time, but not always.}
    God gave the great commision to all, and as long as she's not preaching to men, or having the authority over men, she's doing what she should.
    Did I help the question...or make it worse?

    Well I'll put it to you this way... I have NEVER in reading the Bible seen a passage were God gives the "OK" to a woman to preach. In fact the Bible teaches AGAINST a woman having that sort of authority.
    Anyone here that DOES beleive a woman can preach, how are you gonna argue against THAT?! {I can see a woman "preacher" being the husband of one wife allright! :eek: ;) }
    And look at these:
    Now how, is a woman gonna NOT have authority over man, and not teach him and be in silence in the church AND STILL BE A PREACHER? {unless of course she starts an All woman church!}
    Grizzly, did that help? :confused:

    I don't argue against scripture. I argue for the whole teaching of scripture, not the proof text taken in isolation like you have presented.

    But one of our moderators has expressed his opinion that this is not the proper forum to discuss the matter, so I will not.

    If you want to read a conservative affirmation of women in vocational ministry (including the pastorate), try to find a copy of E. Earle Ellis' book, "Pauline Theology: Ministry and Society". He has a chapter entitled "Paul and the Eschatological Woman" that speaks to these very issues and texts. Through a careful examination of everything Paul taught about submission, women, and ministry, the reader can come to a better understanding of these verses.

    it's always interesting to hear what others think about women as pastors. but i would like to focus on the original question.
    regardless of whether you agree with women as pastors or not...can He bless and lead that church?

    personally i am not fond of the idea of women pastors. but we see God work through the most unlikely people and most aweful sinners in the Bible...so sure I believe God can bless a church where a woman is the pastor.

    After all who are we to say God can't or won't do something?

    Women pastoring has been discussed in the Theology Forum at length. I'd encourage those interested in pursueing it to go to that Forum.

    Don't need to let this thread head that direction, as this is a FELLOWSHIP forum, not for debating. The question is on "blessing".

    God can bless anything God wants to. It's not for us to put Him in a "box" and tell God what He may or may not do! :eek:

    I agree with Dr Bob, God can and will bless whoever he wants in whatever capacity He feels like.

    The interesting thing here is that it seems to me all to often that churches will not have females in leadership, yet they will have them as missionaries in Africa and other third world countries. What would happen if they applied the no women in leadership positions to missions? I can garantee you that there missionary efforts would fall over overnight.

    Just to keep it scriptural, a Missionary in the Bible is called an Apostle. hence Missionaries in the modern world are the same.

    Somebody please correct me if this is wrong, But in school we were taught that one of the prerequisites for being an apostle was to have been with or to have seen Christ. Paul was put into this category becuase of his experience on the Damscus Rd. ? If this is so then we no longer have "apostles" we have disciples.

    Did Jesus choose the Apostels personally, or did he let some one tht knew nothing about it do so?

    Since you brought this one up Miss Abby, I'll say I agree with you. But the wording of this particular scripture leaves a little room, being that it is the only one I know of where a writer of the inspired word of God interjects what my be his opinion or technique. Our belief is that it is his teaching to the church under the Holy Spirit's instruction to him, but the wording of the passage leaves a little "wiggle room."

    Oh yeah...and note that this particular instruction is consistent with the rest of the scriptures concerning the matter.

    At the very least, you have to admit that it is a departure from his normal "what's what" tone in his letters.
