Pastors length of service

Sorry, but from what I understand at my church, the pastor before last only served 17 years. He left the state not quite a decade ago, and last year he was named pastor of a nearby church and is back in the area.

 

The Pastor who married us had been at that church for a little over 20 years when he married us and he is still there and we have been married 10 years so now he has been there a little over 30 years.

 

At the church that I used to atend, the former pastor had served for twenty-two years. He left to pastor in another state. In his farewell, he let us know that it was not to go to a better church, or to get away from anything, but that God was calling him to a new work. It broke his heart to leave, but it also restored his vision for ministry.

Two weeks ago I attended a pastoral anniversary service for a couple who I knew from college who were celebrating 30 years in a small country church. The pastor told me that he enjoyed that quiet and slow ministry and that he would not be comfortable in a large city church.

Just today I was asked to speak at a small rural church in October in which the pastor has been there for 45 years (he came in 1958). We also have a number of pastors who have been in their church 25 years or longer. There must be something in the water here in Wisconsin.

 

We have several pastor friends who have pastored at the same church for over 25 years. My husband just celebrated his 25th anniversary at our church this past May.

 

Circutrider mentioned the length of time in Wisconsin ... perhaps due to the water?

Perhaps some levity is due here. I think it could be simply that they get frozen in the fridgid winters up there and can't get out. You know ... the frozen tundra ....
Some ... become Packer fans (Go Pack Go) and have trouble leaving their churches.

I moved from Wis. to Wash State and ... truthfully ... I can't bring myself to cheer for the Seahawks. Once you've been to the Mtn. top ... all other teams are down hill all the way.

The fishing in Wis. is terrific.
Cheese is better there ... the best.

I was at my last church in Wisconsin for 11 years. Would have stayed longer ... but the Lord moved me on.

 

Just yesterday I used my Chicago Bears (duh Bears) credit card and the cashier made some commment. I always tell folks that I would have been a Packers fan had it not been for Packer fans. As to being frozen tundra, we have two seasons, road construction and winter. Road construction has hit this summer with a vengenance and winter is not far away.

While I am not a "cheesehead" I sure do enjoy the great cheese products that we produce here. I have been in Wisconsin for 23 years and enjoy the northland.
