I would never use the term queer or whore for that matter because I feel that these are derogatory terms used as insults. God said that we are to hate sin but love the sinner. We are to offend in truth but are never to be offensive people. I have heard many a preacher use the word queer. He was not preaching agaist sin but was spewing prejudice and hate. I also feel that such language is just poor taste for the house of the Lord

 

We could use the word 'glutton' for some of the preachers using the word 'queer' from the pulpit. Personally, I wouldn't use the word. It's used in a derogatory manner in our time, and I wouldn't express the truth in that way. Some do and there is an audience for that style of preaching. I don't care for it.

I would exhort all preachers to simply affirm the truth without the name - calling.

 

Not a good idea, that type of language has no place in regular coversation much less the pulpit.

 

queer never homosexual yes. But context is very important. Should never be used to insight hate but since these lifstyles exist in the church and families of the church it should not be side stepped. Only to show someone the light and the deliverance power of the Lord.

I try to avoid any "shock" language from the pulpit.

 

As for its use in the place of "homosexual"---no, I don't do that!

But the word "queer" can be used in many different ways----"I had a queer feeling something is gonna happen!" means "a funny feeling"-----or "There's something queer about that building!" means---something is out of place---or built different!

Although the word CAN be used in that fashion---I try to find other words!

Its too bad we shy away from certain words because those word have grown to mean something derogatory!

I agree Bro David, but I think you are right that we try to avoid those words in any context if possible. Especially from the pulpit. We want nothing to detract from the preaching of the Word.

 

Nope, wouldn't even think of using that word from the pulpit. In fact, I wouldn't use the word "queer" for any use from the pulpit. It is maybe a word that has other meanings, but in our present culture, it is mainly a word used as an insult. And I don't think those words have a place in our time of worship.

 

English has so many other words that can be employed without having to stoop to such lows.

I think SOME preachers get a little too "high and mighty" so to speak. That word could be considered as profanity. Like if someone envolved in incest.
Disgusting yes, but sin is sin. And using that word does not show or teach love for a world lost in sin. The world Christ died for.

This line of reasoning would allow us to use several words that would be considered inappropriate from the pulpit.

Hey maybe this would be a good thread in the versions forum. If the KJV translators, God himself, felt comfortable using that language, why should we abstain???
