Who does What

Of course, everyone else should do it like I do, but, does it really matter?

Our platform is so small we have to keep the traffic to a minimum. I like when other church members take part in the services. It keeps people involved and it also gives them a sense of responsibility.

It takes the pressure off the pastor to try and keep everything moving and organized.

Having others involved helps the pastor to keep his mind focused on his message too. I like that.

 

Our church has the 5 church staff men sitting on the platform during the services. Various ones do the Bible reading, the prayers, the congregational song leading and the choir directing during each service. Our pastor does announcements and of course preaching.

 

Only one at a time here! Our Minister of Music begins on the stage. He's joined by the minister of the day who is making announcements and welcoming visitors. He leaves the stage. When an usher or deacon prays before our offering, they do so from a microphone on floor level. Our praise teams rotate and today was the youth group of about 12. When pastor preaches, the choir of about 80 moved down and no one is left on stage except our minister.

I don't think there is right or wrong but personal preference and size requirements.

Your church sounds like an interesting church, I especially like it when they have a youth group sing.

I'm always interested in preaching styles of pastors, when we visit different churches I take note of different styles of their pastors as well as praise and worship teams.

 

I'm the only one on stage, not by choice. I would love to have others handle different aspects.

 

Sometimes, I lead the singing before I preach. Other times, someone who can sing leads the singing. One of the men will read a passage of Scripture before the last song.

 

I have had the privilege of teaching in both Russia and Ukraine on two different trips with 8-10 churches visited. In almost every case the pastor did not say a word until he rose to preach. The service was 2-3 hours long with three messages, offering, music, announcements, etc. They do a great job of involving many in the services.

 

In the church where I am a member we have five pastors and a song leader. They are all on the platform for the service, but they step down for the preaching. Some or all of them are involved in the various parts of the service, including meeting with respondents at the invitation.

 

The song leader begins with a song, an associate prays and welcomes visitors, another song or chorus, the pastor prays for the offering (or a deacon), more singing.

The song leader and members of the orchestra are the only one that remain on the platform until the preaching. Everyone is down when the pastor begins the message.

 

The only person that uses the platform prior to me preaching is our worship leader and anyone who is singing special music. I sit on the 2nd row with my wife until it is time for me preach because as a member of this church i also want to worship with the other members of the church.

 

When I am preaching, everyone else is in the pews in the congregation. During song service, there are usually 2 on the platform.

We have a small congregation, but God has given us some faithful members who truly love the Lord.

 

I'm with you there, Pastor J. Habazaki San takes up the offering, Mrs. Takasugi plays the piano, and I do everything else. Wish I had somebody.... "The harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few."

 

I do not take the platform until time to preach, except at circumstances where the platform was six miles from the pews (I'm not exaggerating much). I simply am not the focus of the service. I am part of the worshippers. It's a mere choice on my part.

I believe in involving as many adequate and adept people as possible. I like to offer a pastoral prayer and do at least one of the Scripture readings, but again this is entirely choice.

I am in a small, relatively new church. It is six years old but we meet in rented accomodation which is quite small.

So, only ever two on the pulpit (any more would be too cosy). One to sing and one to preach.
