Bubonic plague found in LA

Bedbugs are back in New York as well, a plague in even the best hotels. Tuberculosis never left - it has always had a stronghold in the prisons.

Your article says that bubonic plague is not transmittable from person to person and that the transmitter fleas probably came from squirrels - so are you saying the squirrels are illegal aliens? Or that illegal aliens bring squirrels with them as they cross the border?

 

Dang Mexican squirrels! They are taking the nuts that American squirrels don't want.

Plague has always been circulating in various animals in the western states. TB was under control until the drunk in public laws were unconstitutionalized because we could put the winos in the drunk tank over night and check them for TB and whatever.

 

Dang those alien squirels.

In the American Southwest, if you see a recently dead animal, especially a rodent, give it wide leeway.

The fleas that spread plague are endemic in rodent populations. If given the choice of a live rodent or a live human, they'll take the rodent every time.

But if it starts to go room temperature, they will jump ship for whatever they can get.

One thing we should all consider when we read reports about these new outbreaks of previously "under control" diseases, and where we put the blame, is our own culture's overuse of anti-bacterial products.

It's darn near impossible to buy any kind of soap anymore without some sort of "anti bacterial" chemical in it. And it's not just hand soap anymore. It's air freshners, dishwashing soap, hand lotions, ect... The problem is that viruses and bacteria become immune to these chemicals very quickly. If we overuse the anti-bacterial products, they are going to become less and less effective. This is why, when you get a anti-biotic prescription, your told to take the WHOLE thing, even if you don't feel sick anymore. Any remaining germs are going to build up immunities and multiply, thus creating a strain of germs that are no longer going to be effected (or less effected) than to this drug. Overtime you see strains of diseases that can no longer be cured, in the general human population, with the same drugs that they were once cured with. This is why many people fear TB is growing... because TB is no longer as responsive to penicilan (forgive my spelling there, I'm not in the mood to bust out with the spell checker), the main treatment for it, as it was fifty years ago... or even twenty years ago.

Also, did you know that most "anti-bacterial" products that claim to kill 99.9% of all germs kill hardly anything. The reason is because most of the "germ killing" chemicals in them where tested several years ago when these products where new on the market. Since then the germs have mutates, but the chemicals remain the same.
