It went down long before that when the book of James was written.

    True enough.
Yet, the problem here is not that other religious faiths are complaining that they have been excluded.
I am sure that if they did, the government of California would take steps to see that they were mentioned, or honored as well.
The problem is that, as mentioned by one poster, an atheist is demanding that the cross be removed because he, not other relgions, is offended.
One man, against hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of veterans and their families.
Besides, we ought not forget that the United States is historicazlly and by majority a country of the Christian faith.

Heard Jay Sekulow (ACLJ) and Mike ?Morris? (ACLU) debate on Sean Hannity on the way home yesterday on the Cross Issue...

The ACLU lawyer was beside himself ranting and raving about this that and the other thing...

    It was a laugh riot...

I mean here is this highly educated attorney and he so totally lost it that he was incoherent...

And, this was *before* Jay or Sean made any points!

Jay made the point that if the cross in San Diego has to be removed...

Why not all the Crosses in Arlington National Cemetary...

Sean had to cut the mic on the ACLU lawyer after that...

I am not at all sure if the poor guy had a heart attack or not...

But, it was obvious he had no argument but his emotions...

I can only hope he argues as effectively when the case goes up on the next appeal...

Can anyone hear contempt of court?

And how again is a 29-foot cross, the symbol of Christianity, not a government endorsement of one religion over another?--FromMAgnetic Pole

Once again the constitution does not say the government shall not endorse a religion it says it shall not establish a religion. Two very big differences.

The constitution states that the government is prohibited from establishing a religion. That is quite different from what is being touted as constitutional which is the total separation of church and state, as well as the complete restriction on government to use religious symbols.

A cross on a mountaintop does nothing to establish a particular religion. Get over it!

No, it says that it shall not make any law RESPECTING the establishment of religion. That is quite different than the government establishing a religion. Your interpretation is not in line with judicial interpretation, which is what the standard is.

If compromising their faith involves not being able to separate religion and science, then shame on the student. If it is truly coersion by faculty to deconvert a student, that is wrong as well. I have seen no evidence of any widespread coersion by professors, as you assert...but merely unsupported anecdotal arguments.

When did God get kicked out of schools? Is your God so weak that he can be kicked out of a school? Mine is not!

If you refer to SCOTUS decisions re: coerced prayer in public school, you are mistaken. Students can pray anytime, as long as they don't disrupt the class. Court rulings have said the school, as a proxy of the state, may not endorse or lead any prayer in a PUBLIC school. This is fair. Do you want an Islamic teacher leading your child in a prayer to Allah?
</font>[/QUOTE]Why is it that you cannot teach from the Bible in a school but UNC-Chappel Hill could teach from the Koran?

My niece went to Rutgers and it was nothing short of political indoctrination. Don't hand in a paper with any viewpoint other than what the ultra-left-wing professor wanted to see or you'll get a failing grade. He wanted papers with arguments to support his own unsupportable viewpoints.

To believe that taking God out of schools has had no negative influence is just totally naive. Bible in schools had positive influence. Bible out of school results in less worthy influences.

Dave, let me explain the difference to you.

First of all, I don't know the particulars about the UNC-CH instructor. However, the Bible, the Koran, The Wiccan Rede, The Talmud, or any other religious text can be studied in public schools and universities. The standard is that it cannot be promoted as truth, but rather studied in sociology, philosophy or comparative religion courses. Proselytizing other people's kids with their tax dollars is not allowed. If UNC-CH violated this, it was wrong, and they should be made to amend the course.

There are liberal and conservative instructors that misgrade student papers based upon their political bias. I have seen this from the left and the right. Both are not correct, provided the student can use logic and evidence to back up any assertions made.

Is your God so small that he can be kicked out of a school? Mine is not! Students can freely practice their faith, as long as they don't disrupt others. The rulings are that the school, as an instrument of the state, cannot promote religion or prayer. That is what home and church are for. Do you really want a Mormon, Catholic, Islamic, or Wiccan teacher teaching your kids to pray? Public schools are owned by all of us, and must be evenhanded.

The alternative, if you desire religion in school is to enroll your kids in a Christian Private School. Then they are exempt from such rules.

I am not saying God can be kicked out of school. However, the knowledge of God is what has been removed.

In fact, more than removed for it is militantly fought against. Science classes teach evolution as if it was fact instead of the fanciful theory that it actually is. This is in direct conflict with the truth of the Bible. Don't let a child invoke the name of Jesus in anything but a derogatory manner. How many children have been put in detention for this, or told that they needed to redo a paper or class project because of this.

As far as a Christian Private School is concerned, I will probably do this. But my tax dollars will still fund public school programs that promote secular humanism as the religion of choice. To think that schools are neutral in all of this is a fallacy. This is the religion that the government is allowed, and in fact encouraged to establish.

Yep the arguement over separation of church and state has been officially worn out.

We are all Christians here, and I find it interesting that we arent banded together by a project that was built to offer comfort and peace to all. What this post seems to represent is not fellowship of Christ but the desire to outdo one another in data mining. What a waste.

I find atheists to be quite odd people. Lost and wandering, forever reaching out to things just beyond their reach, unable to grasp truths because they fear or they doubt. An incredibly sad way to lead your life, no doubt.

God will never be kicked out of school...God is everywhere He wants to be. Ive seen little reference to God in school, but most of us on our journey in life will bump into Him quite often anyway - and that often includes atheists.

When this disbeliever looked up on that hill and saw something sticking out of the ground, why did he not treat it with the same respect as one would a tree or a billboard? If atheists believe in nothing, then what is the big deal? It is a big deal because he has to be right. He wants to win, not have long lasting peace. There is a difference.
