I have lurked around this board for quite a while and I am amazed (read stunned) by what people who call themselves Baptists believe.

I would be considered a liberal by most here but am considered quite conservative by my circle of Baptist friends. Anyway here's the gig.

I have and am in the process of compiling a "mini" library if you will of Books, articles, thesis etc. of writings specifically addressing what has gone on in the SBC for the last 25 to 30 years. I would apreciate it if you would point me towards the sources which you believe are "must reading"

    Thanks in Advance.

Actually, those are must reads (Sutton more so than Pressler, because Sutton does more research; Pressler is more of one man's take). You must read even things you'd be predisposed to disagree with. When I get back to the office, I'll post some of the titles from the other side (If someone will do that for me, I'd appreciate it...I'm swamped right now)

    Russell,
Is Honeycutt your last name or are you paying homage to Dr. Roy Honeycutt? Just curious. I've worked with him and like him (Even despite some of his poor statements along the way).

Yes Honeycutt is my last name. Not paying homage although I understand he is a wonderful man and brilliant scholar. It is amazing the number of folks who ask me that.

You are correct though about the necessity of reading "both sides". The majority of things I have collected have been written from the conservative side as opposed to the fundamentalist view. My friend Dietrich thought he was being amusing (he thinks that quite often ;) .

This thread I hope will be for titles and suggestions, I hope it won't deteriorate into the old fundy vs mod debate. There are other threads for that.

    Thanks
    Russell

Payday Someday and other sermons by Robert Greene Lee. Timothy and Denise George are the Editors. All the sermons are much older than 25 or 30 years, might not fit in.

An excellent book I just read that is a little off topic is Time to Reconcile by Grace Bryan Holmes. Of course it hits close to home since my grandparents were members of Tatnall square at the time and I am a member of Vineville now. Wonderful!!!

    Joseph,
Sorry about that. In my haste I was sloppy. Can you tell me who published Neelys collection? I did a quick search on Amazon but could'nt find it.

    Bob,
Thanks for the tip on the RG Lee sermons. I ordered it and am looking foward to reading it. The blurb on Amazon said it also contains some sermons by Adrian Rogers.

Thanks guys and keep your suggestions coming.

The SBC tape distributors just made available a series of significant sermons during the resurgence. When I get a chance I'll post a website where these can be ordered.
