Always glad when anybody agrees with my picks! Been married for 33 years and the bride says the only thing she's ever agreed with me on was in my choice of the finest woman in the world to marry me!

And thanks for reviving this thread. Sometimes they lay dormant until a new reader has something to add . . and we appreciate that!

I think one of great Authors Whom I Trust is Dr. Bob. I have read almost all of his posts and enjoyed every one.

There are a host of modern authors of whom I have one book, but I don't know if I would read everything by them, such as:
    Graeme Goldsworthy
    Tom Schreiner
    Mark Seifrid
    Don Carson
    Doug Moo
    and others of that ilk.
Better to say that my favourite modern authors usually come from IVP/Apollos, Westminster JohnKnox, and Baker Academic.

    Can't forget Tolkien!!
Used to read C S Lewis, but he leads down too many dangerous paths, so I stopped.

OOPS! I just noticed that I didn't include the title of the book from Leadership Ministries on practical pastoral ministries. It is:

"What the Bible Says to the Minister"

It comes in paperback and in a bonded leather cover.

How about 20th-21st Century Christian Authors ?

I would nominate John MacArthur , R.C. Sproul , Walter Chantry , James Packer ( with some reservations ) , B.B. Warfield , Alexander Whyte , Dr. L-J , A.W. Pink and J.C.Ryle ( he just barely made it into the 20th century ) . Jerry Bridges , Elizabeth Elliott , James White , James Boice , Donald G. Barnhouse , D.A. Carson , Doug Moo , S. Lewis Johnson , Gordon Clark , F.F. Bruce , A.W. Tozer , Leon Morris , Ralp Martin , Don Kettie , Mark Strouse , Andreas Kostenberger , Henrietta Mears , Harold hoehner , Moises Silva , Gordon Fee , Phillip Johnson and so on ...

I'll add more authors later . This was a rush job .

    -----------------------------------------------

This one threw me for a loop! Tokien with his decidedly Romanistic ideology versus Lewis, who was High Church, and for the most part one of the best defence of the gospel.

I don't like to quote as my favourite authors, cos surely in short order they will come up with some quirk. I absolutely abhor dispensationalism, and yet had a disproportionate number of books by dispensationalists which I found good reading.

Generally enjoy reading the older theologues.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I enjoy reading Erwin Lutzer. I have many books that he has written. He does a great job of writing theology with a practical application and doing so concisely.

Recently I have purchased three books by Simon J. Kistemaker. The title of the books are The Miracles, The Conversations of Jesus, and The Parables. These have been great reading. I read the book about parables rather quickly and will probably go back and read it again. The other two I am using for devotions each morning.

Many other authors that have been mentioned here are favorites of mine as well.

TCG : Do you really trust C.S. Lewis ? He was not nearly as theologically sound as your other choices .

I don't know 11 of those authors . But to whittle things down for you a bit -- start out with Leon Morris , Douglas Moo and I. Howard Marshall .
