Charles Stanley's 'Spirit Filled Life' was a good read.

I sent it on to a missionary friend a while back and lost it. I'll have to look for another copy and re-read it again. Thanks for the reminder.

Just read H. Norman Wright's "That's a Keeper - Reflection on life from a bass fisherman." I really liked it and was going to spin through it again. In my Spanish class, another fellow struck up a conversation on bass fishing so I used the opportunity to offer to bring the book in for him to read and he was very open to it. It's better he read it than I read it again.

We are going to be reading "A Purpose Driven Life" as a congregation and I'm looking forward to that one too. I do plan on reading every C.S. Lewis book I can get my hands on in the near future though.

Currently, The Hobbit. Then the Lord of the Rings trilogy after that before I watch the DVDs of the movies that my wife gave me for my birthday.

"A Texan Looks at Lyndon" - 1964 by J. Evetts Haley.

It's a paperback that I bought this weekend at a second hand book shop. The author ran for governor of Texas in 1956. I'm still reading the book but so far I have read about a U.S. Senate race scandal in 1948 which makes the Florida fiasco of 2000 look tame. It had one assassination, one attempted assassination, a street killing, armed hired henchmen blocking a bank entrance where a voter list was locked away, and court battles and appeals. Johnson won that race. I don't think that book was widely circulated in the 60s. Looking forward to reading the rest of the book.

Robert Caro's excellent book, "Means of Ascent," outlines the whole mess. But then, Johnson was due one because he had the election stolen from him in 1941, as outlined in Caro's "Path to Power."

Caro also alleges that Johnson "stole" the election for president of the student body at Southwest Texas State Teachers College. Caro also had a third volume, "Master of the Senate," that covers LBJ's career there.

I'll have to see if my book dealer has any of Caro's books. This has been an intriguing read so far.

Non-religious, I'm reading mysteries - Laurie King has two GREAT series (one in modern San Fran and another on the late life of Sherlock Holmes. She is a good writer and they are clean and well-developed for mystery.
