What Books Are You Reading?

I am reading "Love Enough For Two". Does anyone read Love Inspired Books? Do you read Lori Wick? Wick is my favorite Christian fiction writer.

 

About to start The Pastors daughter by Louisa Payson Hopkins, its about the Rev. Edward Payson and his explaining the Way of Salvation to his daughter.

Anybody heard of or read it?

I have an eight year old daughter myself.

"The Balkans"...a history of the Balkan peoples...Serbs, Bulgarians, etc....fascinated by how their identity as ORthodox Christians helped them survive centuries of oppression by Muslims after they were forcibly mergend into the Ottoman empire....also helps understand the incredibly deep roots of recent and current ethnic conflicts in Bosnia, Kosovo, etc.

 

For science fiction lovers I highly recommend:

The Carpet Makers by Andreas Eschbach (2005 - English translation)

In essence the book is an allegory against blind faith.

The Big Book on Small Groups--I don't recommend it! Also, re-reading The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel.

 

Galileo In Rome, The Rise and Fall of a Troublesome Genius by William R. Shea and Mariano Artigas

The book re-examines an early incident in church history that epitomizes its antagonism toward science.


WallyGator, I'm curious as to why you wouldn't recommend "The Big Book on Small Groups".

I have it and it seems to hit all the bases.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I read "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy, and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," by Betty Smith. Totally different types of books, but enjoyed both very much.

I'm now reading "Breathing Lessons," by Anne Tyler, which I picked up in a used bookstore. I don't think I've ever read anything by Anne Tyler, and I'm really liking it so far.

 

I have been reading different books, have just finished Paul, by Chas. Swindoll snd sldo read Job by same author. I have heard about another book, My descent into Death by Howard Storm. Has anyone read this and have any comments?

Perhaps I was too harsh in my assesment, but, Big Book was very simplistic. I know it covered everything, but, not very deeply. It's good for someone looking for an overview on small groups but, having been active in small group ministry for some time, I wanted something more direct. I quess I was disappointed because several people had recommended it to me as a comprehensive help on small group dynamics.

Right now, I am reading "Liberlism is a Mental Disorder" by Michael Savage, starting on "Guide to Teaching Woodwinds" by Frederick Westphall, and "Effective Performance of Band Music: Solutions to specific problems of 2-th Century Band Music" by W. Francis Mcbeth.

A fiction writer I started reading back in the late 80's has gained some notoriety. If you get the chance, check out his work:

Right now, I am reading "How Satan Turned America against God" by Dr. William Grady.

This book tells how Satan used many secret socities and many different ideas and plans to destroy USA from inside. Very good reading so far.

By the way I tell you that President Bush is NOT saved at all. Billy Graham by his false explanation of a watered down gospel of Jesus Christ has lead Bush to make the wrong decision and he recommitted his life to Jesus instead of trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. Plus he is a member of Skull & Bones Society in Yale University, which is equal to Hitler's Thule Society.

The Cat in the Hat (in Hebrew!)

I'm a beginner in Hebrew so the book is a real treat for me.

I'll hunker down this weekend and spend a few hours reading this classic.

Im just about done with Inside the United Nations: A Critical Look at the UN by Steve Bonta. I highly recomend this book for those who don't know the history of this dangerous political organization that is working to destroy our American sovereignty.

 

I'm currently reading The Case for Christ, Bamboo and Lace, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Daniel.

 

The Star Wars book, Revenge of the Sith.

 

A little ditty, passed out at my home church to new or transfer members, 7 Practices of Effective Ministry by Andy Stanley. Easy, smooth read, but very controversial at places. I tended to disagree more and more the more I read. Like to get some opinions from younger pastors.
