Ben Bogard Life and Works

I don't have these books, and haven't looked at them in awhile. Best I remember, there are 3 volumes, two of which consist of the "Life and Works" of Bogard and the third being called "Pillars of Orthodoxy" and contains short biographies about men that Bogard considered pillars of orthodoxy (maybe Graves, J. N. Hall, John A. Broadus, William Vaughan, J. B. Moody, et al.). The first two volumes might be most interesting to those who have been associated and/or familiar with the work of Bogard, while the third will demand broader interest. I would certainly like to add them to my library if I could find them at a reasonable price. As far as I know, they've been out of print for years.

Hope this helps. Some of what I "remember" may be wrong, so I'd advise better research if possible.

Sorry I forgot about this thread, but I wanted to mention that it seemed to me in the 80s (when I was fairly close to a number in both the ABA & the IFLMBA), that both wanted to disassociate their common past - and probably most of the younger ones were not even aware of it. But if you check out some of the ABA minutes in the 1940s, you will see some of the leading preachers from south Louisiana/Mississippi (J. M. Stuart, for example) and several churches were active in the work, served on committees, etc. The split left the majority of the state association in Mississippi with the NABA (now BMA), with a large minority with the Faithway Baptists (I believe some of the Faithway Baptists organized a MS state association two years before the national split), and only a few with the ABA. In Louisiana, the Faithway Baptists held the majority in the state association, and the ABA churches reorganized under the same name. The BMA had only a few, if any, in Louisiana at that time.

 

Life and Works of Ben M. Bogard

I purchased this three volume set from a rare book store in Missouri about a year ago. I had been searching for a very long time. I occasionally would come across one or two volumes, but I wanted the entire set, so I patiently waited. I was out $150.00 for the set. This is a wonderful work, including chapters on Bogard's membership in the Masonic Lodge and in the Ku Klux Klan. There are also many excerpts from sermons and even full manuscript sermons by Bogard.
