My daughter gave me a copy of "Light Force" by Brother Andrew and Al Janssen. In looking over the cover verbage the book is "a stirring account of the Church caught in the Middle East Crossfire". I served in the Army in Operation Iraqi Freedom last year during the war and its immediate aftermath (before the terrorist movement caught hold so well). It will be interesting to read in light of having been in that part of the world. Bruce

    Ken,

Sounds like you have very well trained family and friends. LOL.

    So far I have received:

Reflections. A Daily Treasury of Readings by D. Martyn lloyd-Jones

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham (as recommended by Roger)

Hallelujah! The Welcome Table by Maya Angelou

    The Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook

Hand Knits for the Home by Caroline Birkette

And I believe I have a gift voucher for books from my parents to come.

    Let me see...

Two copies of Robinson Crusoe (my favourite book, but I didn't have a copy) One paperback for general use and a nice hardback for my library.

A Nice Cup of Tea and a Sit Down. Cute little book about the intricacies of a proper cuppa ;) .

The second in the Castaway Series (by Brian Javques). Sweet stories about a boy and his dog who escaped from the Flying Dutchman and now wander the world doing good deeds. Lovely stories.

I'll echo C4K's comments about purchasing two of the same books. I sometimes get the paperback copy first to see if it's worth reading, then get the hardback for my library and give the paperback away.

$100 dollar gift card to CBD doesn't go very far!

I got (again) Swindoll's "Getting through the Tough Stuff" (I lost the first copy after reading the first chapter to someone who must have needed it more than I did). Someday I'll get around to reviewing it in this forum.

And, a big surprise, my wife gave me Robert Alter's "The Five Books of Moses, a translation with commentary". Which I will spend the next few months absorbing. Quite an interesting book! Those who contribute comments in the BB Translations forum should look it over.

I will sometimes buy 2 copies of the same title, one to keep and one to give away.

    Jimmy,

I have not heard of Ted Dekker. Would you care to give an overview of your books?

    God Bless

I think I need one on jealousy. I am so jealous of y'all! This year I didn't get any books, because money is so tight.

The Ted Dekker books are thrillers - they are not overtly "christian" but Christan themes are woven in throught the books. The star is Thomas Hunter, a conflicted young man who just happens to hold the fate of two worlds in his hands. When he falls asleep in one world he wakes in another - with knowledge and skills that he gained in the previous world. No bad language, no sex - but plenty of thrills. Check out his website at http://www.Teddekker.com
