    Anybody read these?

I have just picked up a copy of "Simple Church" by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger and a copy of "Communicating for a Change" by Andy Stanley and Lane Jones. Has anyone read either? Any substance to them?

I just completed Richard P. Belchers theological novel, A Journey in Grace and while I wait for its sequel to arrive I'm beginning By His Grace and for His Glory by Thomas J. Nettles(A historical, theological, and practical study of the doctrines of grace in baptist life)

Simple Church is not impressing me as much as Suprising Insights from the Unchurched. It is a good read, but much more boring IMHO.

Andy Stanley . . . I am always impressed by what he says, and then my stomach gets all tied up in knots.

OK - I am NOT reading andy. He might make the cut off someday . . . but it will be awhile.

    Simple Church,

    Acts, 3 commentaries on Acts,

    2 books on Scarborough,

    one on Truett,

2 by John R. Rice - he writes pretty GOOD STUFF,

and about 15 others. I gotta get caught up so that I can read some GREEK!

CE MATTHEWS!!! - Southern Baptist Program of Evangelism - great read!

    Eating the Elephant, High Expectations

Scarborough - With Christ after the lost

    ;)

Just finished A Journey in Purity by Richard P. Belcher, fiction, though very instructive! The story of a pastor who assumes the pastorate for a very impure baptist church and all he goes through in efforts to bring about restoration of the church and its people to a biblical church structure! Very good, very informative, very enjoyable!
Its great to learn through fiction. Seems you just absorb the information as the plot develops!

I just started reading "A Time of Departing" by Ray Yungen. It is a book about "how ancient mystical practices are uniting Christians with the World Religions." I just finished a book by Warren Smith, "Deceived on Purpose" about the New Age implications of the Purpose-Driven Church movement. Quite an eye opener!

    Just finished:
A Marginal Jew: Rethinking the Historical Jesus:
The Roots of the Problem and the Person, Vol. 1

    ...and starting:
A Marginal Jew, Rethinking the Historical Jesus:
Mentor, Message and Miracles, Vol. 2

Excellent, in depth scholarship, exhaustive detail...I don't always agree with his conclusions.

...did I mention that it was exhaustive?!!

Systematic Theology : Biblical & Historical by Robert Duncan Culver . I just bought it Saturday and have read about 60 pages so far ( not from the beginning though ) . It's quite stimulating . I had never heard of Dr. Culver before . But he will be interesting to compare with Dr. Reymond's Systematic .
