Quite an interesting book.

 

Currently I am reading a little book by Theda Perdue, of UNC, called Native Carolinians: The Indians of North Carolina. It is a small book (68pgs) however it provides a good over-view of North Carolina indians. If I ever teach North Carolina History I will require my students to read this book. I guess that is as good of endorsement as I can give it. :laugh:

When I finish this book I am going to start reading The Poor Indians: British Missionaries, Native Americans, and Colonial Sensibility.

I am also slowly reading through Alan Taylor's American Colonies: The Settling of North America.

 

I recently read the little booklet "Baptismal Regeneration" by CH Spurgeon, available from Chapel Library of Mt. Zion Bible Church in Pensacola; www.mountzion.org.

I can not overstate the brilliance of this little jewel of theological precision and mastery of the language. No wonder they called him the Prince of Preachers.

 

I am currently reading "God at Work" by Gene Veith Jr. at work. This book focuses on our vocations in life like citizenship, work, family and church.

I am reading "The Gospel For Real Life" by Jerry Bridges at home. This book focuses on the whole picture of the Gospel and its various parts and how it relates to the believer in real life.

 

I am reading multiple books at this moment as is my habit. (Just takes a while to finnish)

My seminary training, and subsequent ministry, was in Bible Exposition, so my library is stuffed with commentaries, but strangely I find that I don't read commentaries much unless I am preparing a Bible lesson. Unfortunately, I haven't done any teaching for nearly 10 years (which was the inspiration for my user name).

 

My wife does only light reading.
Right now, she is reading "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper, a Baptist General Conference minister who says he "died" when a semi smashed into his car in January 18, 1989, on a highway in Houston, Texas.
Anybody know this minister ?
Anybody read that book ?

 

As a Brit, I am wondering (seriously) how a semi smashed into a car. Here, it would have to be the other way round, because "semi" is short for "semi-detached house", that is, a housed joined to another on one side but not on the other. Obviously it means something else in the U.S.A.!

 

In the U.S., "semi" is short for "Truck Tractor/Semi Trailer Combination." It is called a "Semi Trailer" because it does not have front wheels.

They are also referred to as "18-wheelers."

2. The Good Soldier Svejk.
[This is the classic, very funny tale of a Czech soldier in WW I.]

 

The classic Things To Come by J. Dwight Pentecost.

If I had one book to read on Eschatology, this would be it.

 

I grew up on that book.

Normally, other than reading my Bible, I despise reading, and I am also a very slow reader typically, but I just finished "Left Behind", and I did it in less than 48 hrs. My wife has gone to the library and will hopefully return with the "Tribulation Force".
