    Hegemony or Survival

A nasty read by Noam Chomsky but important - documents the last 60 or so years of American international terrorism. Not well edited, to say the least.

I have recently been re-reading 'Explaining your faith without losing your friends' by Alister McGrath. Written in the late 1980s and published by Oxford University Press. It provides answers to some deep questions so its worth a read in the event you were to come across it.

I finished reading Memoirs Of An Ordinary Pastor :The Life And Reflections Of Tom Carson. It's written by his son;the well-known and respected D.A.Carson.It's published by Crossway.I bought two copies -- one for myself and the other as a gift for my pastor.

Most pastors are in the ordinary category. But Tom Carson was a faithful and godly man who kept steering straight ahead despite severe discouragements which turned back many others.

He labored in Quebec. That says a lot right there.

I'm not a pastor yet this book was a real boon to me.

Here's a memorable line :"He was not very good at putting people down, except on his prayer lists."

Here is what D.A.'s administrative assistant said :"I used to aspire to be the next Henry Martyn. However, after reading your dad's diaries, the Lord has given my heart a far loftier goal:simply to be faithful.I know we as men are but dust, but what dust the man I read about in these diaries was!"

Rippon. Tom was an early missionary with independent baptist churches in the beginning and was then supported by the same group I belong to now, The Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches. I was in Quebec, at Lachute, in 60's. We were just one step beyond the "auto" jail time for baptist ministers. Back in those days the Catholic priests rules Quebec,,What they said was law. We were summonsedfor handiing out tracts in the street, and jailed for preaching on street corners.

Tom worked his whole life in Quebec as I recall. I should imagine that book would be an interesting read for anyone.

    Cheers,

    Jim

As my annual study, my course this year is in Human Development. It studies the development of humans from the cradle to the grave. The course text is of the same name, Human Development.....purely secular and not religious at all.

    Cheers,

    Jim

The heretical "The Shack" by William Young it isn't Christian but it is marketed as being such.

Well, for a little over a month now, I've been doing a Bible reading plan that involves reading 10 different chapters every day (always reading from different sections of the Bible, 1 chapter from each section). I'm also finishing up a book from Grace to You, "Truth Endures" -- a collection of John MacArthur sermons from over the years, a 40th anniversary special book.
