I know we've done this before, but I thought I'd establish a thread at the top of the forum listing Baptist history resources that are available online.

I'm not sure this will work; some of the sites have links to a multitude of other sites, so there probably will be duplication. I also cannot vouch for the veracity of the information contained on all the sites.

Please list a site and give a brief description. Any discussion about the validity of the material on the sites can be raised elsewhere on the forum.

Thanks for your help.

THE HALL OF CHURCH HISTORY

A cornucopia of links to various creeds, confessions, books, sermons and other resources. Especially interesting is the link to the Old Faith Baptist Library, which has transcriptions of many old documents, including John Clarke's Ill Newes from New England, a pamphlet against infant baptism and religious persecution.

It is a devotional book rather than a reference book, but I learned a lot form "This Day in Baptist History".

The devotionals were once available on the Web, but I can no longer find the link.

Here is a BH site that begins with a caveat to the internet surfer that "not all websites are created equal." >>Something we all should remember when researching any subject.

http://www.yellowstone.net/baptist/history.htm

The opening article is titled:
A Very Brief Introduction to Baptist History, Then and Now
by Bruce Gourley, Baptist Historian

Here are 2 more sites that the above site calls two of the most trustworthy.

http://www.baptisthistory.org/

Sponsored by the Baptist History and Heritage Society.

"Membership in the Society is open to individuals, churches, associations, conventions, fellowships, libraries, institutions, and other organizations. New members receive Baptist History and Heritage, a journal, Baptist Heritage Update, and reduced fees for participating in the Society's annual meeting."

And this one is sponsored by Mercer University:
http://www.mercer.edu/baptiststudies/

"Concentrating on Baptists in North America, The Center for Baptist Studies at Mercer University:

* sponsors and encourages the scholarly study of Baptists through instruction, research, publication, and collection of historical materials,

* seeks to strengthen Baptists’ understanding of their historical place in the broader Christian Church, and

* interprets issues and trends in contemporary Baptist life and American culture.

Another Baptist site with some good links, including to the works of Bunyan, Gill and Keach, as well as the text of Boyce's "Abstract of Systematic Theology."

THE BAPTIST PAGE

The site also has several Baptist histories, including Larry McDonald's dissertation on Shubal Stearns and the Sandy Creek Tradition.

The good folks at General Baptist Net have another Web site that contains writings of a number of General Baptists, including Helwys, Thomas Grantham and Benoni Stinson.

Schoenberg Center for Electronic Text and Image (SCETI Index). This is where you can find the complete AV1611, part of the Geneva Bible, Sternhold and Hopkins's[sic]Psalms, and other assorted historical works.

Not strictly a Baptist history site, but an interesting collection of articles about English Dissenters. Some colorful background on religion in England in the 16th and 17th centuries.

I'm going to start a separate thread especially for these two pubs but I wanted to get them posted here anyway.

The Little Church Of Hamilton Square, the history of Hamilton Square Baptist Church, San Francisco, California

The Baptist Story by David Potter, a pamphlet sized overview written by a former professor of San Francisco Baptist Theological Seminary, currently a missionary educator in Pecs, Hungary with Baptist World Missions.

The Baptist History Preservation Society is a local church ministry dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Baptists through procurement of literary works of Baptist authors, and restoration of historically significant sites.
