There is no Cox Creek Church in the New Salem Association. I have minutes that run back for many years that I could research if its important or I can ask some of the Old Brethren in the New Salem for you. Are you sure it is New Salem, that sounds like a name from Indian Bottom or Friendship but let me know and I will do some research for you. Our Association (Sardis), begins on Friday of this week and I will be seeing all those Association brethren.

The Pikeville College, Pikeville, Kentucky has in its library many records on the Union, New Salem and Sardis Associations history. I am sure there are others there also. Some of this information is in the Belfry Library, Belfry, Kentucky also.

I went to Sardis Association today and no one from New Salem, Union, Friendship, Indian Bottom, Northern New Salem and Philedelphia ever heard of "Cox's creek".

Salem association of Regular Baptist​

Saturday October 1785 Four Regular Baptist Churches met at Cox’s Creek Church

In Nelson County Kentucky. By their delegates in order to form an Association.

After a suitable sermon preached by our Brother Joseph Barnett from first chapter

Of John 17 verse.

We proceeded to business, Brother Joseph Barnett being chosen Moderator and

Brother Andrew Paul Clerk. Letters from four churches were read.

• Servern’s Balley constituted June, 18, 1781.
• Cedar Creek constituted July, 4 1781
• Bear Grass constituted January, 1784
• Cox’s Creek constituted April, 1785

Resolved, That no queries be received in this Association but such as have been debated in the churches.
They also resolved that two days of fasting and Prayer be held yearly, one on the 4th Saturday in March and the other on the 4th Saturday in November.
It was agreed that an Association was onl an Advisory Council.
The took proper steps to obtain assistance and Correspondence from the following Associations – Philadelphia Association (Mass.), Ketocton Association (Va.) Monogalin Association (?).
Elkhorn Association of Regular Baptist
Five Churches were represented.
South Elkhorn delegates – Lewis Craig, William Hickman and Benjamin Craig.
Clear Creek Church – delegates John Tayor, John Jupuy, Jas. Rucker and Rich. D Cave.
Big Crossing Church – delegates William Cave, Bartlett Collins.
Tates Creek Church – delegated John Tunner, William Jones.
Gilberts Creek Church- delegates George S. Smith, John Price.
Lewis Craig was Chosen Moderator and Richard Young Clerk.

Cox’s Creek Church is still in existence but no longer Regular Baptist but possibly Missionary and has several members. It is located just off Rt 150 at Cox’s Creek in Bardstown, Ky.

 

Elder Lewis Craig was my g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. That's 7-greats.
