For me for many years it was almost exclusively Delta. But then they cut back on inflight services, and many of their shorter flights use smaller "regional jets" which are a tad uncomfortable for my 3-XL frame. In the past 4 years, I have favored Southwest--but after my misadventures this spring break, I might look for another carrier. Depending on where I'm travelling to, I still might use Delta just to keep my SkyMiles current.

I have never flown and never intend to. If I ever do, it will because I'm knocked out ( remember Mr. T ) [IMG] I have a tremendous fear of flying and heights. I guess I am just a big chicken. You can't even get me on a roller coaster.

When I fly, I am not necessarily "stuck" with one airline. It just depends on where I am going and the cheapest/best possible way (or a compromise between the two.

I have flown on many occasions US Airways and American Airlines, and not so much American Airlines. I have also flown Lufthansa (don't recomend it) and Lot Polish.

    Mr. Edwards,

ROFLOL. My pastor is a big guy, too. He must be at least 6'5" and ----uh, he is just a big guy. We have flown together to the Ukraine as a team, and the first year I went with him, we had to fly Lufthansa, plane with really small cubicle seats. His knees touched the seat in front and when he let the tray down, it reclined on his belly, and the food kept sliding off. He had to throw the food in his mouth because he hardly had room to bend his arm to reach his mouth. LOL.

I am not that small of a person, either, and on one leg of either that flight or a flight the next year, he and I shared a row, and one of our other team members sat between us. Poor Mike was wedged in--He said he never sat on the seat he was so wedged. ROFLOL.

    Short domestic flights, Southwest.
    Longer domestic flights, American.
    Overseas going east, British Airways.
Overseas going west, Korean Air or Philippines Airlines.

Saggy, since you live near Charlotte I'm not surprised that you use US Airways. Charlotte happens to be one of their big hubs. And please, just call me "Jimmy" instead of "Mr Edwards"; I think I am about the same age as you are.

In recent years I more often than naught use an alternate airport when feasable. When I lived in Greensboro, I would sometimes drive to Raleigh/Durham to catch a Southwest flight. Now that I'm living in Mississippi, I either drive to Birmingham or Jackson to get the cheapest flight. In fact, I would even drive as far away as Little Rock, Nashville, or New Orleans to get the best air deals if I had to. The closest airport to me, Golden Triangle regional, is only served by Delta and Northwest commuter jets, so I avoid it for my already stated reasons.

For an upcoming conference in Columbia, SC, I will be driving to Memphis to catch a Delta flight to Atlanta, then rent a car to drive to Columbia and back. That's cheaper than flying to Columbia from anywhere.

You would drive to Columbia from Atlanta just to get a cheaper flight? Certainly the flight can't be that much cheaper than renting a car? And then driving 4 to five hours.

When will you be in Columbia? What conference?

The conference is called "Call2Ministry." It is for youth and adults who feel that God is calling them to full-time vocational ministry. Even though my home church licensed me to preach in 1996, I have continually wrestled with this--especially since I am in a graduate mathematics program. I am looking for resources that will help me as I walk with God on His path--should I pursue a bivocational ministry? Should I participate in volunteer missions along with teaching math full-time? The one thing God has affirmed is that He does not want me to be a pastor or church staff member in the "traditional" sense.

There are "Call2Ministry" conferences year-round. In fact this weekend it is at Southwestern in Fort Worth; and one weekend in May it will be at Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina. You can find out about them at www.call2ministry.com

ps: I would have used the voucher Southwest gave me a couple weeks ago when I returned from Texas, but that would have meant leaving Thurs nite from Birmingham to fly to Raleigh, spending Thurs nite in Raleigh, driving to Columbia the next day, then having to fly back Sunday and taking most of my day at that. Since I will be getting $100 from Baylor for reimbursement for my attending a preview conference at Truett Seminary and since I have a free night at a Motel 6, I figured I would use those proceeds to fund this trip.

    :D

whichever one will get me to where I'm going without trying to send me to Mexico. (that really happened. I was going to Nevis West Indies, and the airline was convinced that I was going to Mexico and wouldn't let me get past the front desk because I was 17 and Mexicon "wouldn't let me in without a letter from my father" (mom was there) It took us 20 minutes to clue them in that Mexico was nowhere near where I was trying to go

    Hi guys
I will tell you what airline not to fly - Garuda, Indonesia's national carrier.

A few years ago I was travelling from Sydney to Jakarta. The place was hours late leaving. After finally getting away there was a terrible "grating" noise everytime the plan moved its flaps. About an hour into the flight they had to turn back to Sydney for minor repairs (while dumping all excess fuel).

After landing again we didnt hearing anything from an airline rep for six hours and this was to tell us the flight was cancelled until the following morning.

The following morning I ran into a Qantas technician laughing about what was going on. After asking him what the story was he mentions that the plane was purchased from Air Mexico which apparently went broke. They purchased the plane at a discount because it didnt have the normal branded engines (eg it was Pratt & Whitney on an Airbus I think). Anyway there were no parts for the plane in Australia so they had to be flown in from the US. (apparently this was cheaper than chartering a new plane). Anyway we finally got away without any further incident.

However, on the return flight three days later I was recounting the tale to a fellow passanger as we were boarding. Just after finishing we look out the window and guess what the name on the front of the plane was - you guessed it " Mexico City"!!

IT IS AMAZING HOW COMFORTING PRAYER CAN BE!!!!! [IMG]

United was my favorite until just recently.

Now it's JetBlue. New planes, direct flights and in-flight DirectTV. [IMG]

I have a frequent flyer account with all major airlines - sometimes there is only one carrier that has desirable flights (time, location, price, etc.).

I use Southwest and American normally. Being close to the DFW area it only makes sense. Southwest is probably my favorite. Their service so far has been top notch.

I will go for the lowest fare, so I never know what airline until I am actually booking the trip. In many cases, though, Southwest is a good alternative flying from Dallas Love Field instead of DFW. If not for the insidious 'Wright Amendment,' Southwest would probably be the majority of my flights. That was a smart move in '73-'74 as Southwest was only a fledgling and chose to continue to use Love Field while other commercial airlines moved to DFW. But it is a pile of rubbish for SW to have the best fare, for example, from Dallas to Phoenix, but to make that route one must book separate flights and have to claim and recheck baggage in El Paso, Albuquerque, Lubbock, or somewhere.

From Casper we have only two options - 20-person prop shuttle to Denver on United or 30-person shuttle to Salt Lake City on Delta. Obviously, flying on with either of those carriers is substantially cheaper.

Delta's SLC hub is MUCH more "user friendly" than Ohare or Denver for United. And it has a Dick Clark restaurant!

Love El Al (tightest security in the world, but lousy food). And love Cathay Pacific, which feeds you a jillion times going over to the Orient.

Hate Alitalia (rudest workers and cancelled flights constantly) and Alia (Royal Jordanian and every person looks like a terrorist).

Flew Aeroflot once from Kiev to Moscow. Will take SAS or a train, but never that one again. Felt every turn we were going to crash. Ugly.

Delta. Platinum Medallion Member unfortunately. When you live just south of ATL your pretty much a Delta customer if you travel for a living.

Maybe this is another topic but what is your least favorite airport?

For me its got to be Dulles and those elevated people movers.

I used to fly United exclusively when I lived in California, mainly because my mother worked for United for many years as a flight attendant. Since I moved to Florida over 14 years ago, I have switched to fly exclusively with Delta! I flew NorthWORST airlines last week and it re-confirmed why I fly with Delta. Plus I finally made Silver-Medallion last year!

I remember those people movers at Dulles. Before jetways were in vogue, they carried passengers from the gate directly to the planes. I believe now that they take you from the main terminal to another terminal where you actually board your flight.

Years ago at the old Atlanta Hartsfield, I remember Eastern had a few of those people movers. Again, this was the late 70s when jetways were in their infancy.
