How many miles, or how long?

    With music or without?

30 min on the treadmill or crosstrainer three times a week for the last couple of months. I avg. about 2 miles in the 30 min. a little less on the treadmill, and a little more on the crosstrainer.

Sometimes with music, sometimes watching the TV at the Y, and sometimes just not paying attention to anything around me cause I'm talking with God.

I walk 2 miles a day, 6 days a week unless hindered by weather or illness and I weight train also. I'm hoping to work it up to 3 miles a day soon. A great book on the subject is Fitness Walking For Dummies and Runner's World Magazine which I subscribe to, while oriented toward Runners and Joggers is very helpful on timing, nutrition (Where it says run just insert walk [IMG] ).

When I walk at a track at the Hospital I prefer to listen to music on my CD or if I walk on the Church grounds I do also. I do not listen to music while walking on the road because of the danger of it's distracting me from automobiles or unfriendly dogs. [IMG]

I run about 3.6 to 4 or 5 miles 3-4 times a week. I love to run. Walking is fine and is supposed to do a lot for you,but I never feel like I am getting my heart rate up enough when walking. I do walk occassionally, though, for relaxation.

If you enjoy walking,go for it,but try jogging,too...it is great for you! [IMG]

No, but I did walk home from school the other day. By the time I got home, I had about suffered a heart attack. It took me an hour and a half to walk the same distance that it usually takes me 15 minutes to drive. Of course, I was also in a shirt and tie and carrying my briefcase. Maybe I should start exercising....

Instead of brisk walking where one faces the dangers of cracked sidewalks or crack drivers or crazy dogs, we use the amazing CHI Machine.

15 minutes of passive, non-impact on it (usually while watching the Today Show) is equivalent to 90 minutes of walking in terms of oxygening your blood! Most people think aerobics must be strenuous and pump up your heart, a dangerous thing for me. This gets the benefits without the danger.

Size is that of a typewriter (remember those?) and cost about $500 for a real one imported from Japan. You lie on the floor and allow the machine to move you in a "goldfish" type motion, at the proper speed (twice the sedentary heart rate) and angles (so as to also align the spine, massage internal organs, etc, while oxygenating the blood). Perfect for us "oldsters".

And of course, an unabashed plug for my wife's clinic that sells them to chiropractors and patients all over the nation!

I walk about 30-45 minutes (though sometimes not as often as I should, either!)

When I am staying with my sister, I walk with her dog. He's a big dog, he likes to walk a long way, so that's good for about an hour.

I love walking. I used to jog until I started having sever shin splints and joint injury from the impact. Dr. told me jogging is excellent for your cardiovascular but terrible for the rest of your body, it is the primary cause of joint injury and not only that but it is responsible for most perminant joint damage.

But I do walk, 5 days a week for approximately 1 hour. I cover about 4 miles. I use the "Praisewalk" series which can be purchased from Intergrity music. I love the praise and worship music and it makes that walking so much more fun. Not only do I get excellent excercise, but I also get a great spiritual boost.
