*grin* You nailed it. I didn't post those two particular films just to stir up responses, but nonetheless I fully expected the first response I got to be "What's up with that?"

Early in the movie, the protagonist, astronomer Ellie Arroway declares that she does not believe in God because his existence cannot be proven. She is challenged by her boyfriend, the movie's religious figure, who argues that not all rational beliefs are subject to proof. Ellie finds herself in the hotseat at the end of the film, where she is accused of lying about an alien encounter for which there is no evidence it ever happened, and all she can say in her own defense is that she knew it was true because she experienced it herself.

As it happens, I had been reading some works on apologetics before seeing this film for the second time, and I realized it was a beautiful example of the methodology known as "Reformed epistemology."

Carl Sagan died before the film was complete. As a notorious agnostic and a figure frequently hated by fundamentalists, I wonder what he would make of the implications of Contact's conclusion?

Hi Guys,
"The Ten Commandments", and "The Robe" would have to be way up on my list of favorites. "The Robe" had one of the most realistic sword fight scenes I've ever witnessed on the screen!

I'm glad someone mentioned "Contact". I, too, caught the religious undertones.

I loved the men's room conversion of Buck Williams (played by Kirk Cameron) in "Left Behind".

"Prince of Egypt" also stands pretty tall to me!

My all time favorite would have to be "Jesus of Nazereth."

Little House on the Pararie always had episodes that mentioned the Lord. I cried many a tear watching this show
Anybody remember Highway to Heaven?

It hasn't. I bought the tape from Amazon Ent. for $30.

 

Susan I love Little House on the Prarie, remember that episode where the little boy Charle and Caroline adopted(him and his siter, their parents were killed in a wagon accident), and he was shot, Charles takes him out in the woods to take care of him by hisself. Does a lot of praying and, and the boy recovers when they thought he was going to die. Very good episode, makes me cry evertytime.

 

Lord of the Rings as a religious movie???

I too have read the books and seen the movie. To me it was pure fantasy, no religious overtones at all. Having said that, it might be noted that many books, movies, and t.v. shows use the good vs. evil hook, kind of interesting that this is one of the most popular themes in entertainment.

I remember Little House on the prarie and Highway to Heaven. Both were good shows that didn't rely on shock value to gain an audience... those were better days as far as t.v. goes. Todays "Touched By An Angel" isn't a bad show and kind of reminds me of "Highway..".
(Maybe this would be an interesting topic for a new thread..).
