Are you asking about Valley Forge, the National Park? Or about "Valley Forge", which we commonly use to refer to American Baptist Churches national headquarters? (Also affectionately dubbed the "holy donut").

I live 1/2 hour east of VALLEY FORGE [LINK]

It's lots of open park with some trees, surrounded by development.

Stop by if you decide to visit.

Yep, thats the one. If I ever make my way there, I will PM you and maybe we could do lunch and have some of that good Christian fellowship we Baptist's always speak of.

Hav you ever been to the park and do you find it "historically edifying" if you will?

It's not unusual for those of us who live in the area to take for granted the historical sites that are so abundant around here.
I haven't been to the park in years.

    One visit is enough.

I would compare it to a place near you, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace park, but more crowded.

If you come to the area you will have to do the historical tour:
The new Independance Visitors Center, Independance hall, Betsy Ross house, Liberty Bell, Edgar Allan Poe house, and a DUCK TOUR for the kids.
Almost everyone in Philly has done it once... years ago.

My parents live in Washington Crossing, PA.
That may be worth a gander too.

Valley Forge is a wonderful spot. Watching the movie (I'm in it as a reenactor) is free and worth it, since most visit in the beautiful Spring, Summer or Fall and NOT what it was like.

Visit the Chapel, the Victory Arch and Washingtong's HQ area. And my boys loved to just run down the lines of canon that are in numerous places.

There is a travel map/little guide booklet from place to place (it is a HUGE park) and neat for a driving tour.

VF is just a few minutes from King of Prussia, the largest Mall in the East. And less than an hour from Philadelphia even in traffic.

And only about 90 minutes to Gettysburg if you are history buff - we did downtown Philly (mint, Betsy Ross, Ind Hall, Liberty Bell, Franklin Museum was a little disappointing) one day and stayed right there at the Holiday Inn (nice rooftop pool)

Second day to VF (see above) and later in the day to Gettysburg for Holiday Inn on the battlefield. Third day did the driving and walking tours of Gettysburg, cyclorama was dull but museum/center is great, then headed home. LOTS of history in that area for a long weekend trip.

Valley Forge is indeed a great place to visit.
Although I grew up only about 20 miles from it, I can only recall going to it about 3-4 times.

Each time I visted, I thought about the troops that spent that horrible winter there and the sacrifices they made to help secure our liberty that so often we take for granted today.

The last time I was there was in September 2002. It was on a very beautiful day, and one of the more fascinating things I saw then were the deer that almost came right up to your car.

BTW, one of the longer roads in Valley Forge is named "Baptist Road." [IMG] [IMG]

Yeah, those deer can be pesky; my daughter snapped pictures of a 10-pointer and his harem eatting my azalias last week.

Recently the decision was made to create a new national cemetery in historic Dolington, PA, just a few miles from my house.

Check with the park for a schedule of fire-arms demonstrations as well. These are available on many weekends.

Yeah, probably because it leads to ABCUSA headquarters. Not a good road to be on.

Because the building is round, with a center courtyard. An "O" shape.

At the Visitor's Center in the main HQ of the Park. Most park services have one now, rather than just static displays of artifacts or maps.
