I have always wondered how in the world someone has the energy to murder and rape when they have had no food and water for days. It seems like that would be the LAST thing on the mind of anyone in that situation.

The Gideons International are sending 40,000 Personal Witnessing Testaments (New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs) to be distributed at the Astrodome and other relief centers in Houston.

    LorrieGrace,

In normal settings, that would be true. A physically weakened person in a hospital receiving good and clean care would not do this.

But just think about this. What percentage (and I don't know the figures) of an inner city area have people who are addicted to cocaine, heroin, or crystal meth.

And what about the population of people who drink a 5th of whisky each day or smoke 3 packs a day?

This portion of the population (and again, I don't know the percentages at all) stranded in the Superdome have had to quit cold-turkey AND involuntarily.

...and I am not saying that everyone who committed terrible acts were and are substance abusers...

But this psychological upheaval coupled with mass hysteria, chaos, and feelings of hopelessness were unfortunately destined to bring about horrible, horrible actions from some people.

It isn't as easily understandable from those of us sitting in the peace and comfort of our dens and living rooms watching it all.

    Peace-
    Scarlett O.

    Lorrie,

I suspect the most violent criminals have stolen supplies of food and water.

    Scarlett,

I don't think your statement was fair about sitting in peace and comfort. If these people are in involuntary detox due to lack of drugs, I would think that they would be in DTs.

I quit drinking and smoking cold turkey and trust me, raping someone was NOT on my mind, period!

TexasSky, I didn't take that into consideration, but you are probably correct.

KATRINA: GOD'S REPLY TO SOUTHERN DECADENCE!

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people that are victims of this disaster (Katrina). But as we seek to help, we must not forget to also hear from God's Word in the face of these disasters:

Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

The Lord teaches us that we must use these tragedies to examine our own lives, to draw closer to God, and cleanse wicked hands:

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

God rained fire on Sodom and Gomorrha for the sins of sodomy, fornication, pride and idleness (Genesis 19, Ezekiel 16:49-50, Jude 1:7). Did anyone soberly believe that the Lord would continue to allow New Orleans, year after year, to escape His justice? Katrina should cause everyone (especially in America, and in the Southern "Bible Belt") to repent of things such as the wicked, homosexual, "Southern Decadence" parade (that was scheduled right after Katrina hit!), the casinos, and the general acceptance of homosexuality, pornography, abortion, etc.

THERE WILL BE MORE PERILS COMING! These weather disasters are the "false labor" pains (warning pains), that are alerting us that the true travail is near. The real travail (or birth labor), is when the earth enters the time of trial, like never before in history (the Tribulation Period). That final period of travail will grow in intensity, until Jesus appears in fire and brimstone. These present "false labor" pains will also grow in intensity, until the "water breaks," and the real time of travail begins. This is the day of mercy. The world has only seen the beginning. God is telling us that we need to repent, fear Him and keep His commandments, and that His day of patience and mercy is quickly coming to an end:

    Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Revelation 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

Believe upon Jesus, the Son of God, and trust Him to save you by His shed Blood. Then, live for Him, and await His coming. It is at hand.

Many cities in the US do things that are detestable to the Lord, such as Las Vegas and San Francisco, for example. I doubt that they see this tragedy hitting the Gulf Coast as any concern to them. The drinks and poker chips are still flying. Some probably do not even realize anything horrific is going on they are so lost in sin.

WHAT ABOUT HURRICANE KATRINA? Friday Church News Notes, September 9,
2005 (Fundamental Baptist Information Service, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf coast of the United States, from Alabama to Louisiana, and broke levies that inundated New Orleans with flood water. For the first time in my lifetime an American city is being entirely evacuated.
Some have suggested that it was an act of God to prevent a homosexual festival that was scheduled to begin just two days after the storm hit. This was reported by WorldNetDaily ("Christian Activist: Act of God Prevented 'Southern Decadence' Festival," Aug. 31). It could be that there is a link. American is a wicked nation, and New Orleans is definitely a wicked city. (I attended the mardi gras two times before I was saved.) God is holy and judges sin. Then, again, it could be that there isn't a direct connection. Unless we have a foretelling prophet among us, and I don't believe that we do, we will not know for certain this side of eternity what God had in mind for this storm. Personally, I prefer focusing on things that are absolute and clear as opposed to speculation. Luke 13:1-5 might be better ground to stake out. "There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

I obviously struck a nerve with you and you seem to think that I was attacking you and I apologize for that.

I was not excusing these people in the least for their behavior. You asked a very simplistic question and I was giving an explanation as to what could possibly be one cause of some of riotous and evil behavior in a cross between what resembles a third world rebellion and a war zone.

These people were forced in a place (the Superdome) that was supposed to be "safe".

Suddenly there was no light, no water, no food, no place to urinate nor defecate except in front of other people, people committing suicide, people dying, no way to communicate with anyone and fear greater than you and I sitting here chatting on this board can even imagine. Fear that no one is coming to save you.

Now add in a crack addict or crystal meth addict who hasn't had a fix and isn't going to get a fix. And he needs one more than he need food and water.

I was simply saying that some of the violence could possibly stem from this lethal combination.

I was making no excuses for anyone.

I was simply discussing possibilities based on your question.

    Peace-

    Scarlett,

It is I that should apologize. You are right, you were just stating the posiblilities. I have heard it said, though not from here, that unless you are involved in the situation, you should remain quiet as you know not what you are speaking.

I think that I am just stunned at how people reacted. I have been accused of being niave about the goodness of people. They must be right because I am still finding it hard to believe some of what I have seen with my own eyes.

    Please forgive me.

I think we tend to underestimate the restraining influence of government and law enforcement.

    Genesis 6:5
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

    Matthew 24:37
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Sure he does. But you aren't he, nor his spokesperson.

Are you a prophet? Do you speak for God?

    Thought not.

Well I don't believe in random acts of judgment, but hey, whatever makes you sleep better.
