What do people have against PETA?

I see and hear lots of belly aching against PETA. I would like to know, what do people have against them? Are they unethical? Radical? Are they fine but you just have no regard nor concern for animals?

And nuthin. God tells me to avoid those folks. Not to work with them, to remain seperate. Good enough for this Christian.

    King James -

On top of that Bro. Curtis said, yes, they are all that and they are unethical and radical.

I have a friend here in town who was researching "crib death". The friend is an animal lover and had dogs, cats, rabbits everywhere that he and his wife rescued from extermination. He adored animals and would do without himself to see they were cared for.

His lab monitor brain activity in certain animals - including cats. He also had a pet cat that he kept as his lab. The cat had heart disease, a bad leg, and needed daily medications, but was dearly loved by my friend.

PETA broke into the lab, destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, destroyed years and years of research meant to save the lives of babies, and "set free all the cats". Unfortunately - that probably means most of the cats would starve. It defiantely meant the death of the cat Sam loved so much - due to the inability to get its medications.

    And?

    You didn't answer the question.

So basically because someone who runs something is not a Christian you do not support it?

TexasSky...that is awful. :( I'm sorry that happened. I do NOT approve of what they did. Not at all. I hope your friend is doing ok. I just thought most Christians had a problem with PETA because they could care less about animals.

Bro.Curtis never really answered my question though. I don't believe just because something is run by a non-Christian that we cannot support it. If that were the case, we could never support governments because they just are not Christian.

Actually, my bible tells me to submit to my government, and doesn't stipulate if it's a Christian government or not. Second, the bible tells me that in the end days, unGodly folks will tell me I can't use animals for food or clothing. Thirdly, I hesitate to debate anything with you. PETA is a bunch of libby thugs, IMO. I will not support, rather I will fight this atheist orginization.

How do you know who runs PETA and what their views are about religious and scientific topics that are completely independent of the aims of the organization? Have you met them? Are you a member or a groupie? ;)

I am not aware of such a verse. Would you care to share where it is found?

This is against my better judgement but...

    1 Timothy Chapter 4

And I now bow out, since I allready stated my opinion.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Thanks. I've never heard this passage used in this context before.

For some context, this is sandwiched between the Deacons and Overseers passage and the "Let no one look down on your youthfulness" passage.

If 1 Timothy 4:3 is about PETA, it could also be warning us of the apostacy of Robert Atkins and Jenny Craig. ;)

I enjoy a good laugh at PETA's expense as much as the next guy, but some of you guys here are pretty funny too. [IMG]

No need to be scared to debate with me. If your bible tells you to submit to your government why do you support rebelling against a nation to start a new one? Hmm?

I myself have never said that people cannot use animals for food or clothing and I hope you don't even think of implying that I do. On the other hand I believe in treating animals well and killing them humanely. Yes, I love animals. All I asked was what problem people had with PETA. You chose to answer your way...I just felt it wasn't an answer.

Now are PETA a bunch of libby thugs (how Christ like) and that is why you don't support them? Or do you not support them because you don't like animals?

4Hisglory...I like meat. But I don't make light of eating it. I actually thank God for providing my food and for the animal who gave it's life so that I could eat. To me it is serious and I don't make light of it.

BTW Bro.Curtis...I do nothing that nobody else hasn't done to me first on this board. If you hesitate to debate with me that's your choice. But don't for a second try to imply that I am such a bad guy and hard to debate with, at the same time excusing things others have said to me. That ain't cool.

Unethical? Well, they've been known to break into places of business to "rescue" animals. I think that qualifies as being unethical.

    Radical? Absolutely.

The biggest reason I don't take PETA seriously is because of their inconsistency, subjectivity, and extremism.

For example, they threatened to sue a local Petco for selling "feeder mice" for snake owners. They're no longer feeder mice, they're "plain mice", and they're separated by gender (I wasn't aware that snakes prefer one gender over another).

Now, this tactic of theirs is completely inconsistent. It is natural and normal for snakes to feed on mice. No matter how the mice are labaled, they get treated the same, and they all become snake food. Further, PETA doesn't go after the labelling of feeder goldfish, feeder crickets, or feeder worms. Whassupiddat?? PETA is successful because they prey on the "feeling" aspect of animal care, without any moral or objective absolute on the subject. For example, wearing fur is an extreme wrong to them, but wearing leather doesn't seem to carry nearly the same verascity with them. Don't get me wrong, I tend to think the wearing of fur is a bit vain, but I also live in SoCal, where winter temps dip into the low 60's, and there simply isn't a need for fur. It would be ridiculous of me to impose that same view of fur on folks in Chicago or Fairbanks.

PETA is right that we should treat animals, God's creation, with respect. In fact, they say you can tell a lot about a person by the way he treats his pets. However, PETA is completely wrong in their definition of what constitutes "ethical treatment". But, what about the other kingdoms of life forms? Why do they not care for the ethical treatment of fungi? Or the ethical treatment of protists? Or the ethical treatment of monera? Or the ethical treatment of plants? Why single out animals?

    Anyway, herein endeth the soapbox.

Amusing, because Jenny Craig is a Christian. [IMG]

There are people associated with PETA who have been known to go to large dog shows and sneak in and release dogs from their crates. If I ever caught someone doing that to one of my dogs or anyone else's I would not let such a person run away and would use physical force if necessary to restrain him/her until the police arrived - or maybe turn him/her over to the other handlers and let them mete out justice to him/her.

The Human Society of the United States(HSUS) is a much, much, much more responsible organization for pet owners and animal lovers in general to support than PETA.
