It's been a known fact that Iran has been actively involved and actively supporting terrorism since the 1970's when they were sponsoring it in Beruit and Lebanon. Iran is without a doubt the number one country for sponsoring terrorism. It's a shame that both sides of the aisle has been guilty of working deals with Iran. But that's politics and not Christianity! We have to remember that most of our elected officials are not Spirit led and their goal is not to build the kingdom of God.

    </font>
Hiya Dunamis,

    That is my point exactly! It doesn't matter which side you're on, they are BOTH corrupt. And as a Christian, THAT is what we should be worry about today.

    We shouldn't vote for someone just because they are a Democrat or a Republican, we should vote for the man that will help uphold our values. If there is no one there that will do that, then we should help get someone honest to run.

    WE shouldn't have to settle for one or the other, and I believe because we do settle for one party vers the other then that is the reason we have what we have today in Politics.

    Jamiein NH,
    while I would love to see a new political party, it's too late. We've not enough time left (IMHO) before the Lord calls believers out, and the tribulation begins. I think our best, but overwhelming chore is to try and steer the Republican party in the RIGHT direction. The Democratic party is past redemption as far as I can see.

    And your regard for truth? There are many news articles about arms deals and Reagan and Iran.

    If you regarded the truth, then you might believe the news article and the statement you made at the beginning of this thread, but after showing &lt;easy search on Google&gt; that is wasn't any of Al Gore doings, you disregard that and still believe in it?

    That to me seems like someone who doesn't want the truth, that seems like someone that just wants to stir the pot.

    Jamie
    Truth wasn't the reason you started this thread.
    </font>
You are right JamieinNH, I posted it because of anger over the political ramifications which would have resulted if any prominent Republican would have completed this deal. So, in that sense, I did post it in the interest of truth. The underlying truth is that there is a huge double standard in America, in the reporting of conservative Christians and secular Democrats.
    </font>
Read the Bible instead of Republican propaganda. Whether a person is a Democrat or Republican has no bearing on their Christianity.

    No more so than Bush 1 or Reagan should have known what the results of their support of Afghan rebels would do.

    Since the beginning of the Cold War, our foreign policy has been very pragmatic. We supported groups just because they were a problem for the Soviets rather than because they deserved support. There were calculations that have failed... and may still cause us problems in the future.

    I think the future would be better if the US had divided Iraq after the invasion. If not into separate countries, at least into autonomous confederate states. The Kurds are good allies and deserve their own country. They are also the group most likely to succeed at a non-theocratic democracy.

    The Shiites and Sunnis are unlikely to ever agree on anything except hatred for Israel and the west. If we leave now, that is probably the only force that can bring them together... and undoubtedly someone has already figured that out and is standing in the wings.

    If we pull out completely before a secular state is firmly entrenched (a la Germany and Japan post WWII), we will face severe consequences.

    </font>
The worst thing Reagan did on Iran is not take the Dems head on for their outrageous and unconstitutional actions.

    Communist sympathizing liberals specifically wrote a law to prevent Reagan from funding democratic/pro-US rebels in central America. So, what was thought to be a win-win-win deal was struck. The US sold arms and parts to Iran... which was fighting the Soviet backed Iraqis. The proceeds were forwarded to the pro-US rebels.

    The US was able to simultaneously oppose Soviet advances in the Middle East and Central America. All part of the aggressive Reagan plan that finally completed our Cold War victory... over the howling objections of left-wingers.

    Reagan's primary failure was not exposing the people and agendas of the liberals who didn't want to block the Soviets and support pro-freedom revolutions.

    The policy worked. The tide of communist revolution in Latin America was turned. The Soviets were denied control of the Persian Gulf with its oil and warm water ports. The USSR then involved itself in a disasterous invasion of Afghanistan... all of this contributed to the eventual collapse of communism in Russia and eastern Europe and the isolation of Castro... freeing or keeping free several hundred million people.

    </font>
The problem with this statement is that Iran wasn't the biggest threat the US faced in the 70's and 80's. We were facing the USSR. Iran was a pawn in that game.

    Successfully opposing the Soviets was considered more important than the ideals of the allies needed to achieve that end.

    Countries mainly act to forward their own national goals and security. Countries aren't moral. People are moral.

    Think that's not the case? We supported, trained, and armed bin Laden in Afghanistan's war with Russia. We also supported the Shah of Iran, a tyrant in his own right (Eisenhower through Carter) http://www.parstimes.com/history/shah_us/, Saddam Hussein himself (Reagan) http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/press.htm
    and Ferdinand Marcos.

    Has the U.S. done questionable things in the past to furthewr its national objectives? Will it continue to do so in the future? Of course. There's only one chosen nation identified in the Bible and that's the nation of Israel.

    Actually, I think the nation would be better of if its foreign policy reflected our values and not pragmatism.

    I disagree and rather vehemently, in this vein. A true Christian, could not embrace the Democrat party's platform, including its hatred and subsequent murder of the unborn, it's disdain for Americas power and righteous use of it in fighting evil, and total disregard for truth as it attacks a sitting President at war. I personally could never be a Democrat if the party stands as is. And I was raised in a Democrat family.
    To not be able to see any difference is hard for me to understand of a believer.

    </font>
I didn't say it was in the bible, and that accusation is always offered by the leftists that have no leg to stand on. You obviously can't see the difference. Too bad

    From what you said, a leftist isn't a Christian. Why would they "always" say that you're wrong because your argument isn't Biblical? You're not making any sense.
