SMM, the Declaration made note of a non-specific creator. That is not what the US government is founded upon. That merely declared the independence of the 13 colonies.

You say I am wrong, that the US is founded upon the Bible. It just ain't so! Show me where in the Constitution it says that. The founders could have clearly made that statement. The country is founded on the Constitution, and the priciples of the Enightenment.

Why did the Congress pass with little comment, and the President sign the treaty of Tripoli, which explicitly states the U.S. is "in no wise based upon the Christian religion"?

I am sure if you *really* want to live in a purely secular state we can take a collection and send you to Tripoli or Russia... :D

Or, maybe you're suffering from Hypoxia due to your lofty perch?

Taking money by force from one person to give to another person is immoral - whether done by an individual or a group of individuals acting through a government. Taxes for national defense and to maintain law and order are not immoral as a nation has an inherent right to self defense as it is composed of individuals who have an inherent right to self defense.

A Biblical case cannot be made that slavery is immoral but is it illegal in the U.S. according to the 13th amendment to the federal constitution.

You only tell a small portion of the story. It is not necessary to have scripture referenced in the Constitution in order to prove that the United States of America was founded on biblical principles.

If you will look in the Declaration of Independence, not only will you find the phrase "Endowed by our Creator" but you will also find the phrase "The Law of Nature and of Natures God".

When you refer to the Kings assertion that they had a divine right to rule over the people of Europe you are correct. And in the Declaration of Independence the colonists declared that the King had actually overstepped his authority through his tyranny. And in rebuttle to the Kings assertion that the Colonists were in rebellion they appeal to "The Law of Nature and of Natures Law".

This phrase was well known, used and understood by the Colonists. It was common in England, spoken of by Blackstone in his comentaries of English law which was relied upon by the colonists and required reading in their schools. It is taken from the writings of Paul in In the book of Romans, and Psalm 19. It is refering to the testimony and witness coming from all of creation that speaks to God and his glory and how they give testimoney that God has set in place certain laws that cannot be denied nor avioded.

All that the Declaration goes on to say is based on the premise that God has provided men rights that cannot be usurped by the king.

Secondly, The foundation of this country is based on more than the Constitution. A knowledge of unrevised American histroy will help you to understand this.

Our Country was established by men and women who had a biblical sense in all matters. The bible was the main text book in all their schools. Their sense of morality came from God and God alone.

The foundation of this country is more than paper work but it includes the every day lives of the men and women who began it, fought for it, lived with it, and died for it. The foundation of our country is our American history as a whole.

I would say that your view of patriotism is the narrow view.

You seem to have an odd understanding of what a foundation is. As I have said the foundation of this country encompasses more than the Constitution. It incudes the reasons for seperation from England, it included the labor that was exerted to live the every day lives of the people in our American history.

Ih Hebrews Ch 11 and verse 40 after having described the faith and sacrifice of our heros of the faith, the author says this: ... that they without us should not be made perfect.

The foundation of our country relies on history as a whole. And their sacrifice to walk away from england, settle wild and hard lands, endure sickness and disease, fight and die for the Laws of Nature and Natures God.

You see... their sacrifice will be made senseless and void if we were to change our system (free trade) to communism. My patriotism is an allegiance to the blood sweat and tears of all of American histroy becuase they without us will not be complete.

However, I do believe Fidel Castro is looking for more good residence to support him. Enjoy! [IMG]

What's the Biblical case for self-defense? How is that reconciled with turning the other cheek?

SMM, your citing of David Barton's Wallbuilders is misguided. He has been roundly discredited among both Christian and Secular sources alike.

Like I said Revmitchell, we definitely disagree. Your buying into revisionism and dominionist viewpoints has blinded you to the truths and lessons of history.

That said, you continue to pull out this accusation of "COMMUNIST" at every turn. If you don't have any basis of dialog, you shout "Communist". Fidel Castro and I have as little in common as Castro and you. You are acting like a Cold War dinosaur. We won. Let's move on. Unless you need to go stock your 50s bomb shelter. Remember, to "Duck and Cover" when you see the flash!

    Actually it was Jesus Himself...

Matthew 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Oh my...my...the first new testament church a real Kibbutz don't you think...wow they all co-oped in that first fledgling church and they didn't spout names or labels they met needs..its called "MERCY"

and guess what God gets the credit because he met needs regardless of politics and labels ..socialist or capitalistic...seems God likes to pick and choose or create hybrids between the two...the end result is

"His Sovereignty" and for that HE WILL BE PRAISED!

reverantmithcell take that pic of Joe Mccarthy off the wall beside Jesus and leave that space for the ONE who meets needs.

Those darn! socialists they allowed the desert to bloom!!
