    This is a serious question.

    1) A Jewish poster on "RightNation.us" website said that Bush traces his ancestry to King David. I am not yet a full member of the site and cannot ask him directly yet. So I don't know, it's just what some poster claiming to be a Jew said.

    2) The PBS documentary companion booklet to the "Liberty!" series about the American Revolution says on page 318 that the Bush family, specifically "Solomon Bush", was a wealthy New York banker who lent money to G. Washington to pay his men during the Revolution. How many other Old Money "Bush" families from New England are there in America.

So, honest question, is the Bush family Jewish?

    Not lately, not likely.

There were no Christians back in King David's time, so once you get before a certain date your heritage won't be specifically Christian.

There was a Lt. Col. Solomon Bush, who was Jewish, in the Continental Army (linkie), but he was in Philadelphia and not related to the English family line that W claims. It's likely that the presidential Bushes can be traced to Essex and, further back, to Wexford to Strongbow (linkie to Guardian article).

Our W is also not related to George Washington Bush the northwest pioneer (linkie).

    good data, daisy.

My question is also: so what if he is? My "anti-semitic" alarm goes up when I hear stuff like this...

I agree so what if he is? He's still a member of Skull and Bones founded by opium lords and the Bohemian Club, super rich elite that chant and burn effigies of human children in front of a 45 foot tall statue of an owl every July, his family even have private accomodations there.

Not what I was taught being a Christian or Jew is all about but hey today anything goes I guess.

This idea all comes from British Israelism, the teaching of Herbert W Armstrong.

Total Heresy and also openly Racist, do your own research if you like, yet it is pretty quicky proven heresy when you look at the actual evidence rather than one mans teachings.

It may be an honest question but I sense some malice behind it.

How far back can you trace your family?

The farthest I can trace my family is a 6x great grandfather who came to this country from Germany. He was Catholic! Since, he was Catholic it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that ancestors 1,700 years before were Jewish.

Therefore, I most likely can trace my ancestry back to the Jews. What does that make me?

    A bad historian?

Most German Catholics have no Jewish lineage, although some do. The area was populated before the time of Abraham. The peoples mostly became Catholic during the expansion of the Holy Roman Empire.

One say to trace your geneology is to participate in the Genographic Project (linkie). For $100 US, you receive a mouth-swabbing kit which you use to submit a sample of your DNA which will then be added to the database, along with information you provide, and analysed for known genetic markers. The researchers are mainly interested in original inhabitants of areas - which disqualifies most Americans - but this helps fund the project and it might be kewl to know your patrilineal genetic history.
