NCAA Showdown Weekend - Congratulations

I am wondering how patient the Nebraska fans will be with their new coach after they fell apart against Texas Tech this weekend? I bet they didn't expect losing games by 60 points when they replaced Solich after last season. If things don't change quickly, Baylor might be their only remaining win on their schedule.

I thouroughly enjoyed the Sooners extending their streak in the Red River Shootout to 5 games. It was also the first time the longhorns have been shutout since 1980. Sooner freshman, Adrian Peterson (from Palestine, Texas) was amazing caring the ball 32 times for 225 yards. He has over 100 yards in every game this season so far.

Tennessee beating Georgia was a shock to me. After last week's performances by those 2 teams, I thought Georgia would win by 20 or more.

Cal almost repeated their upset of USC, but couldn't get it in the endzone in 4 attempts starting with a first and goal at the 9 yard line. Cal's quarterback had an outstanding game completing 23 straight passes at the beginning of the game. After two tough wins, the Trojans still have one more big test Saturday against Arizona State.

 

You got that one right Rod, Husker fans are aweflly quiet today.

 

I am fine with OU being #2 for now. There is still a lot of football to be played. USC still has to play undefeated Arizona State this coming Saturday. Oklahoma has to go to Stillwater to play unbeaten Oklahoma State on Oct. 30 and Texas A&M the following week (who will be wanting revenge). Miami and Virginia (both undefeated) play each other Nov. 13 and both still have to play always unpredictable Virginia Tech. Auburn still has to play Georgia and the always dangerous Arkansas Razorbacks (both at home). Antoher 2 unbeatens, Wisconsin and Purdue, also play this weekend in a game that could help decide the Big Ten.

I wonder how many undefeated teams will survive the regular season? It always seems like there could be several at this point of the season, but I imagine there will be some upsets along the way. I think there will be at least 2 or 3 (from the BCS conferences).

 

I hope there are at least three undefeated teams so the BCS system will look bad again.

 

That would bring back some pre-Big 12, pre-BCS memories if it did end up OU-Miami. I would imagine USC would have to get beat for it to happen since the BCS was "tweaked" as a result of them being left out last season.

Human polls now make up 2/3 of the total BCS score. It will be interesting to see if the "new" BCS will have less controversy than the "old" ones. My guess is that there will still be a controversial finish since they still didn't fix the primary problem (when more than 2 teams have the same record in the top positions).

 

I used to be a big fan of the BCS, not because I thought it was "fair" (though I don't think the human polls are any fairer) but because the contraversy around it is so much fun! Everybody wineing all the time and so many articles and predictions and complaining. It takes over water cooler talk for a month.

But now the unfairness is starting to way on me. I just don't think it is fair for teams in the SEC or Big 10 who have five or six big matchups a year to be compared to the pac-10 where after one or two games you are home free. Even the beefed up ACC still seems like an easy road for Miami. With Georgia, Auburn, Tenneessee, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, and a chapionship game to boot, how can anyone go undefeated?

I still think we should keep a BCS rating system but let the top 8 teams play in a three round playoff. That way we can have to top 8 teams (don't have to let the division winner of the mountain WAC river red skirt lady league play) but some good SEC or Big-10 teams who had thier expected loss or two can still get in.

I'll really be happy if anybody but Miami plays in the Orange Bowl. Seeing as my team Tennessee is already disqualified by most, I will be cheering for Wisconsin (or Purdue if they win the next matchup) to go for it all.
