Albert Pujols praise our Lord Jesus Christ!

I caught the end of game 6 of the NLCS on the radio. Right after Edmonds hit the game winning HR, the ESPN guys spoke with Pujols right on the field. The very first thing he said was that he wanted to give his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all the honor and the glory, that without Him , he (Pujols) would have nothing. Albert Pujols has now become my favorite player.

(And I'm a SF Giant's fan)

Well, Curt Schilling is our brother, too. He also gave the glory to God in the ALCS and after game 2 of the Series. Praise God for athletes who are not afraid to be a witness. May the Lord bless them and keep them safe.

When they "give glory to Jesus" is that indicative of being truly regenerate? Or is it often a cultural "good luck charm" like crossing yourself at the plate or kneeling in the end zone and pointing to heaven?

Just curious if some know REAL testimony of these players. I'm a little cynical - been burned before.

After his win, Schilling was quick to talk about his Christian faith, and he acknowledged God's hand in giving him the strength to compete in that game under painful conditions.

"I tried to be as tough as I could, and I did it my way and you saw what happened," Schilling said about his Game 1 performance. For Game 6, Schilling knew he'd have to rely on God's strength and not his own.

Q: The other night you were very honest and public about how faith and prayer helped get you through that performance the other night. Can you talk more about that and also how your faith in God makes a difference in your career and your personal life?

CURT SCHILLING: Well, I don't think, until the other day, I realized my shortcomings over the last seven years as far as my walk with the Lord goes.

It was something I had realized that the four days in between the games that that was going to be my last option from a personal standpoint. I tried (in) Game 1 to do things in a way that I knew how to do them. And as I said that night, you all saw how that turned out.

I just wanted to, in the end, be able to go out and compete and pitch. I could not do that on my own. My pregame ritual and the prayers I usually say as far as going into the game is nothing more than allowing me to glorify His name at the time when it's right, and I failed to do that a lot.

I agree that some people use this a good luck charm, but I am inclined to go with the belief:

Innocent until proven guilty.

If someone claims to be a Christian and believes in Jesus as their Savior, who am I to say they don't. I don't know the heart of any man except my own. If they aren't truthful about it, they are the ones that will have to answer for that. Their are to many people trying to find faults and destroy Christians, so I am not going to do it to someone unless I have proof that they are not being truthful.

Considering Schilling specifically mentioned getting saved 7 years ago, it would seem that he is for real.

I don't know about Pujols. I do know that in the Dominican Republic Catholicism seems to be a big deal, and a lot of Catholics are just words, so it's hard to tell with him. Very rarely do you hear baseball players from that area actually mentioning their salvation. They just seem to have more respect for Jesus than us Americans.

But, I do agree with swampfox. There's no reason to say Pujols isn't a true Christian, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

P.S. Go to http://www.thegoal.com to find the testimonies of many Christian ahtletes. I'm not sure if Schilling is on there, but he should be!

Howard Johnson - former NY Met third baseman - and current Binghamton Mets batting instructor - spoke at the chapel of Davis College (formerly Practical Bible College) in Binghamton, NY last spring at "College Days."

Would have liked to have able to hear him speak - but was unable to be there - bu my young people said he had a good message for them!

What about God?
While many think you're a great pitcher and a courageous human being, some don't understand why you think the supreme being cares about whether you win a baseball game or not.

CS: "I never said he did."

Don't you pray before every game?

What happens with your god when you lose?

CS: "With my God? Or God? I don't think anything happens to him, but I think pretty much every time I do lose I get taught some sort of lesson. Be it preparation, aggression, execution, or humility."

If there is a supreme being of some sort, some may question whether he cares who wins the World Series. There just might be a few more pressing problems in the world.

I simply asked him to provide with the strength to get to the mound and compete, and to give me the strength to glorify Him when I was done. I have had the opportunity to do this in my career, and until this year I had basically passed. No more. Like every other time in my life when I looked to him for help, for answers, He answered. But this time He answered in a way I felt. I always thought that when I asked, he was supposed to answer in a way I could easily see and understand, but I know now that a lot of times I am asking for one thing when I really mean something else, or asking for something I don't need. So now I stop asking the old way, and start letting Him decide what I need and how I need it.

"There are so many more pressing problems in the world I agree, but I can't be more than one person, so I asked for me, and for everyone on the field, the ability to compete, and do right, and wisdom.

"I proved to myself Game 1 that I didn't have the strength to do it, to overcome whatever it was I needed to overcome, Game 6 and Game 2 were all His. He got me out there, and my teammates took care of the rest.
