Detroit Tigers

So far they look great, but there is a lot of season left. The Astro's were left for dead last year. The Chronicle put a RIP tombstone on the front page of the paper saying that the season was over. They ended up going to the World Series. The good thing about the Tigers is they are only getting old at the catchers spot, they have a really young team. I have 3 of their pitchers on my fantasy team and they are all kicking butt.

We shall see

 

I love how they have started out - hear the other day, that if they do no better than win half of their remaining games that they will win 90 for the season. As a ranger fan, hope pudge and kenny keep it up all season. I still havnt forgiven the rangers for letting pudge go, and keep kenny away from the photogs!

 

I think the Tigers are for real. I don't think they will win 113 games, but they should contend for the division and/or wildcard. Leyland has made a world of difference for them.

 

I think they are for real, but they are not a .700 team (hope they prove me wrong). 4His, I still contend that their schedule thus far has been easy. A quarter of their wins have been against the Royals, which might be the worst team in baseball history. Their testing period begins tonight and runs through June 28th. During this stretch they play the Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, Blue Jays, Cardinals and Astros. These next 32 games will be their toughest stretch this season. I'm hoping for .500 during these games. In July they get a reprieve, and August gets tough again.

I think the White Sox will ultimately win the division, though. I foresee a race similar to what the Indians and Sox had last season. The Tigers need to win 95 games to get the wild card. 90 wins will not be enough. I expect both the Yankees and Red Sox to have at least 90-95 wins. The Blue Jays may be up there, too. The West probably will not have any wild card contenders.

 

Oh yes - and have fun tonight! I've not been to Comerica yet. Went to Tiger Stadium alot as a kid. If the Tigers keep it up, I might try to get up there this year!

 

I'm shocked

I thought it would be the Indians and White Sox contending for the division. The next 10 games or so for the Indians will be between the White Sox and Tigers. This should sort out who the pretenders are. Unfortunately, I think the Indians could be double digits out of first place in a couple of weeks because their pitching is horrible.

Who is Tigers' MVP so far this season?

That's a tough question. They have been so balanced. They are a lot like the White Sox in that regard. My candidates are Kenny Rogers, Ordonez, Guillen and Pudge. I think Pudge contributes a lot to the success of the pitching staff with his handling of pitchers and experience. Plus, he still has a good stick. I might go with him for those intangibles.

 

The Tigers' MVP is Leyland. He has made the difference. He has brought a whole new attitude to the team.

 

I agree with Leyland. After the Indians swept them very early in the season, Leyland lit into them and told them he was not putting up with a lack of hustle, and the old ways for Detroit are gone. The team bought into it, and have been very impressive to this point.

 

Oh I def think Leyland is going to be a major player for coach of the year.

 

Today, Tigers beat White Sox 2-1. Won 2 of 3 series. Tigers are now 5 1/2 games ahead over White Sox. That is their biggest lead ever in this season so far. Tigers are played 95 games of the season already so far. I confident Tigers can win 100 games this season. They might be the largest ever turnout record in MLB history. Tigers were below .500 record last season. Now, they are 33 games over .500 record. Wow! That's impress!

Yesterday, my friend and I both were supposed go to Tigers game. But game was sold out! Three games in a row are sold out! Wow! Tomorrow, I will go to Comerica Park, to buy tickets for Aug 24 Thursday 1:05 pm against White Sox. This time, we better buy tickets right away rather than having last minute.

Tigers can beat any teams. But, I am worry of White Sox, Red Sox, and YANKEEEEEEES! I do not trust Yankees. I hate Yankees than any teams.

In the playoff, Tigers must be serious playing well against three of them, or will get in trouble.

I hope Tigers will make it to into World Series this season.

If the playoffs started tomorrow, I think there's only one team the Tigers would have to worry about.

The Yankees you say? They've got Mussina, a past-his-prime Randy Johnson, and some decent but not great pitchers. Yes, they have Mariano Rivera, but they also have Kyle Farnsworth. I mean, the Yankees went out and got Sidney Ponson for goodness sake. Great offense yes, but how many great offenses win playoff games with mediocre to below-average pitching?

The White Sox you say? Their pitchers were very good in 05, and are shaky in 06. Their offense is great, but see above.

If I were a Detroit fan, (and thank goodness I'm not! :tongue3 I'd be concerned about the Red Sox. Schilling and Papelbon are studs. Lester and Beckett just threw consecutive shutouts. Though they have Manny and Big Papi, they're not a great offensive team like the Yankees or White Sox. But, Boston has outstanding pitching and didn't they just put together a string of something like 16 or 17 games without an error?

Yeah, Boston is the team Tigers fans should fear. And Detroit is the team that Red Sox Nation should fear.

 

Yes, the Tigers are still here since this thread was started back in May. I agree that Boston may be the team to beat. If the playoffs started today, the White Sox would play Boston and probably get beat. The Tigers would play whoever from the West and win. The ALCS would be Boston vs. Detroit with home field to Det. I think it would go 7 games, and it would be worthy of being called the Real World Series, as the NL is not even worth the time.

 

The Tigers have been very impressive. The Red Sox look really good too.

While I agree that the AL looks to be dominant. Let's not completely forget about the NL. The Mets and the Cardinals can still make some noise.

People thought (including myself) that the AL would dominate the All Star game, and the NL was a couple outs away from winning the game. So anything can happen.

 

Overall, the better teams are in the AL, no doubt. However, as we've seen time and time again, anything can happen in a short series. A team only needs 2 great pitchers to win a 7 game series.

 

I expect whatever NL team makes the World Series to get crushed. The NL has been swept in the World Series 4-0 the past two seasons.
