    How is my eyesight?

1 Corinthians 13:12, "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

PS - thanks for the tip - we're supposed to learn something new each day - and I just learned something new today!

Okay, so when you have cataract surgery, do they always put you to sleep? Can you 'see' what they're doing?

My husband had both eyes done as an inpatient and he was knocked out. I'm afraid of anesthesia. Never had any except laughing gas at the dentists one time. I don't, however, want to SEE what they're doing to my eye!

Dr. Charles, can you or Deacon answer or someone who has had this done?

I've little personal knowledge of eye surgery but know from people who have had it that it can be done in a specialty surgical office rather than a hospital setting.

It can be done with local anesthesia under conscience sedation (awareness but no memory).

Rob is right. It's often done under local anesthesia with some "light sedation" - the good stuff like Fentanyl, Versed, or Diprivan!

Thanks guys. I am scared of anesthesia. Now if I can just force myself to call an eye doctor.

If they use local only. Then it is not bad. They cover you face with a light paper towel with a hole where the eye is they operate on. The anathesia is then injected around the eye (a slight sting, not bad at all--a good doctor will start injecting as he/she goes in so the shot itself becomes nearly painless as they go in.

Your eye looses its sight so you don't see anything. It is not bad at all. I have heard of some hypnotics and maybe valium along with a hypnotic used to relax and make you forget. Some don't like to do this. There is a slight more risk any time you use general anaesthetics, so for insurance (liability) purposes, they often don't use it on eye surgery.

You have nothing to worry about except worry. The surgery is easy. I would rather have it, than go to a dentist.

    I hope this helps some.

Regarding the extra symbols, on a Mac they are built-in to the regular system, just use the "option" or "option-shift" keys with a number or letter key.

    "option"-r = ® (registered)
    "option"-2 = ™ (trade mark)
    "option"-4 = ¢ (cent)
    "option-shift"-8 = ° (degree)
    "option" -3 = £ (British Pound)
    "option"-g = © (copyright)

    etc.

So what do you do about lack of memory!

I had to come back to this site - in order to remember how to work this big print/small print thing!

Dan, I have Windows XP and can click on View, Text Size, and Larger or Largest. It stays that way until I choose to change it. Good for us old folk. ;)
