I am 18 years old and just recently got a cell phone. I haven't had to use it yet. My mom says it is only for emergencies, but yet she used it one day and called me from someones house to let me know where she was. Couldn't she use their phone if the cell was really only for emergencies? Mom's are strange they worry so much. They also go agains their rules, like using the cell only for emergencies.

Maybe your Mom only wanted you to use it when YOU are in an emergency. Funny thing about parents, they do have one set of rules for themselves and one set for their children.

Me, I don't let my son go out of the house alone but I do it all the time. Then again, what business does a 23 month old have outside by himself anyway?. :D

I still don't miss my cell phone. The only time that I have missed it was when I got in a wreck last Christmas (well, it wasn't on Christmas, it was about 2 weeks before)and I had no way to call my mom. I had to use the girl's phone who's Honda met the back end of my Explorer. My mom said "Jessie, you call the police first, not your mom" I wanted mama there more than the police, even thought it was not my fault. Anyway, just wanted to say that I still don't miss that phone.

My sons are both teenagers without cell phones. If they are out and need a phone they stop at a pay phone and use there calling card. You should pull over to use a cell phone anyway so you might as well use a pay phone. My boys never go anywhere that is more than 30 minutes from home but if they where going on a trip I would feel better about them having one. It's not a matter of trust or knowing your child. I am not the kind of parent that says my child wouldn't do that because I know them better than that. I don't think any parent really knows what the child does when away from there parents. All we can do is raise them the best we can and hope and pray they obey your wishes. I am not against them, I just don't see the need for a teenager to have one unless they are going out of town or something. I never had one and at 36 never have. There's alot of things we could live without and be just as happy. ~Sheila~

When I see cell phones on campus, I have the weird belief that any young woman who has one also has a boyfriend, 'cause that's probably what she uses to talk to him
