If soap operas were on when I try to sleep-- around 1 -2 a.m.-- I'm sure I would have no difficulty-- if I didn't mind the TV staying on all night.

When I'm not tired but I need to go to bed, I read. When I AM tired, I go to bed and read. The best thing ever for me was the Kindle with the e-ink technology (currently have the Kindle Paperwhite) because I can read comfortably in bed with the lights out, thus not disturbing hubby. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I can continue to read.

I admit we keep the news on to see what is going on in the world but pretty much shut it off right after the weather - and then read!! :D

I am not saying this works for everyone, but my sleep therapist said that the bed should only be used for two things: sleep and marital relations. According to him, if you read, read in a chair and get in bed when you are ready to sleep. He said this programs our brains to know that when we get in bed it is time to sleep.

But don't read from Kindle/nook. This, I hear, prolongs going to sleep.

Yeah, I really like to read before bed. This is very good for relaxation. I used to have chronic insomnia, and used medication to stem it for years. Over time, though I found a lot of little tricks to help me sleep without the chemical crutch. I was nervous when I stopped the medications (with my doctor's help), but found my little tricks worked just fine! Reading instead of TV, is one of my tricks. In fact, I turn off all electronics, including muting my phone, at least an hour before bed. I sleep just fine these days.

I really like to sleep before bed, it helps me to fall asleep. One of my favourite things is drifting of with a book in my hands, that i can't do with television somehow. Keep waking me up.

I don't read often before bedtime but if I find that I am feeling restless I will pick up a book. I don't have to read too long before I can feel my self winding down and getting tired. It calms me and helps me relax. Most times I end up falling asleep while watching TV.

Funny because I always end up looking up sermons to listen to while I go to bed and then can't sleep. But last night I read before bed and just went to bed without looking at a screen and I went to sleep. I woke up early and didn't feel tired like I usually do.

I've got a bedside table with reading material on it... I even use it sometimes.

But usually its 2 minutes tops and I'm in a deep sleep while my wife is still brushing her teeth.

...and up at 4:30 Alien ...that's when I read!

I always read before bed. I read to my children and I read for myself. I find that it helps to relax and rewind after a long day. People these days are too dependent on screens. I miss the days of books.

I find that when I'm laying down with a good book, I have a much easier time falling asleep. I love to read right before bed. My head always ends up nodding off as I scroll through the pages. This doesn't surprise me.

When I was still in college, I used to read a lot. Even when I was already tired from school, I would still find time to read. It was as though reading had been my obsession/addiction. But right now, I have become a little busy with a lot of stuff, specially about work, I don't have time to read anymore. It's sad though.

I feel the same way - the Kindle Paperwhite has turned me back on to reading before bed, and when I can't sleep. It is light, the light emitted is not the same as other screens, and my wife can sleep while I read. I find it very useful.

It has also helped my reading numbers. I think I am going to have around 80 books read in 2015.

I'm not a big reader, in fact the ONLY time I do pick up a book is when I'm in bed and can't sleep. That's probably why it can take me up to a year to finish a book, but reading in bed works for me, even though some people say it's not recommended.

Reading can enhance your sleep. It is highly recommended if you have problems getting to sleep. Instead of taking sleeping pills, get a good story book and you will fall asleep even without realising. There is no problem if you can even read to 01 in the morning, as long as you fall asleep at last.
