Is kissing OK? Never a day goes by that I don't get dozens of emails asking that simple question. While the majority of those emails are from young adults, the answer applies to people of all ages.

Kissing is OK only when it is your husband or wife that you are kissing. PERIOD!

Oh boy, I can already see the eyes rolling back. I already know that a 14-yeaar-old girl is typing as fast as she can to tell me that I am crazy.

I know somewhere an 18-year-old young man is ready to send me an email to tell me how out of touch I am. I also know that there will be tons of emails asking me what chapter and verse in the Bible says "thou shalt not kiss unless you are married".

First, I am not crazy. Second, I am very "in touch". Last, there is NO SUCH VERSE in the Bible.

However, the Bible is VERY CLEAR about the issue of being pure and avoiding sexual sins. God's plan for intimacy between a man and woman is in the bonds of marriage. PERIOD.

That means NO SEX. Fornication is clearly
defined over and over in the Bible as a sin and means ANY sexual act between people that are not married. Jesus actually set the standard in this area when He said that if a man even lusts after a woman that is not his wife, he has committed the sin of adultery. Lust is a sin. So to even lust after someone that is not your spouse, is clearly a sin.

So what is so wrong about two people who are not married kissing?

First, it is a very intimate act. Again, that type of intimacy God designed for those who are married.

Second, kissing is like the fuse on a stick of dynamite.

If you are not married and you know that sex is out of the question until you are, on top of that, lusting after someone that is not your spouse is called a sin by Jesus, all kissing does is open the door that can lead to sexual activity, and clearly opens the door to lust.

The fact is, GOD LOVES YOU. Some will read this today and think God doesn't want me to have any fun. Quite the opposite. Everything God teaches is to INSURE that you have the most abundant life possible. As I say so often, if we do it God's way it works, if we do it our way it doesn't.

God's way brings blessings, and our way brings consequences. Those who follow God's way in the area of romance and save themselves for that one special person God intends you to spend the rest of your life with, know how special intimacy with your spouse can be.

Those who have not followed God's plan in this area of your life realize that something God created to be so special can be very unfulfilling.

It is like a hungry man who does it his way by
stopping at McDonalds, instead of doing it God's way and enjoying a 5-course feast.

Amen! I soooo I agree with that. I may be 14, but I will not be the one typing furiously to tell him he's wrong. Maybe to agree with him, but not to say he's wrong.

I'm 21, and some time back I made a decision not to kiss a guy until we get married. The guy that I liked a few months back made the comment about some mutual friends and how they chose not to kiss...my friend said "I couldn't do that" and the first thought that popped into my head was "You could if you were gettin married to me buddy" LOL...for the record..there are no plans on either of our part to be married to each other. Even though at one time I welcomed that thought [IMG]

Hmmph. Been married now 40 years come this June but when we were courting, we kissed, and the thought of committing adultary was not a part of it. We did enjoy it, however, as we do today.

40 years! Congratulations! Times are a changing though. Young people who don't kiss don't have to fight the temptation of going further. Better safe than sorry.

You also have to remember that not everyone ends up marrying the first man they kiss...but they do if they wait until marriage!

I'm certainly not a youth so I probably shouldn't be posting here but I have a slightly different angle upon this subject that might interest someone.

My basic answer to the 'should we kiss' question is :

When you are married to your husband (/wife) would you kiss someone else?

Assuming the answer is no then the question becomes:

Would you kiss someone else when your spouse was away?

If the answer to both of those is 'no' then you shouldn't be kissing anybody now.

God has your spouse planned for you; even now they are out there. Should you really be kissing somebody else just because your God-planned spouse happens to be 'away' at the moment?

I believe that one shouldn't kiss before marriage. Talk about the "special moment" and you are awaiting that. That's what I think. I am 16, and I am not going to say ANYTHING against that!! Just remember I Corinthians 7:1

    OH, Diane! Believe me, you aren't the only one who thought that! {I still have students ask me were they are suposed to go and such cause they think I'm a teacher! LOL, at least I can yell at the kids in the hall kissing, or cursing, and they walk away blushing, cause they still havn't figured out I'm only in ninth grade!}
So Diane, I take what you said as a compliment.
    I guess one of the reasons I have the conviction about no kissing till my wedding day is because I feel that whoever I marry deserves that from me. You know, I'm not that pretty, or that smart, and I don't really have much to offer, but I do have my purity. And to be able to give that to the one God has made especialy for me, well I think that's something precious. Now granted most kids think I hit my head to hard or something, but hey! So what! I never claimed to be all there in the first place [IMG] No seriously, I don't care if people think I'm old fashioned or crazy. It sure wouldn't be the first time, and I doubt seriously it'll be the last! {My English teacher calls me "Her little prude!" :D }

the very fact that Jesus said that to even look at someone and lust after them you have created adultry in your heart goes to prove that tonsil hugging/lip locking is practically the same thing

I doubt I'll go any further than a friendly hug while courting LOL if I'm even that... ummmmm "brave"? LOL [IMG]

so here's another teen(ok so I'm 18 and have a very strict set of parents ;) ) that totally agrees that lip locking doesn't cut it ;)

You could use the same logic for anything.

Would you hold hands with someone else if you were married - NO? - Then holding hands is against the rules.

Would you hold feel attracted to someone else if you were married - NO? - Then feeling attracted to someone is against the rules.

There is no black or white answer here, if kissing is something you cannot share with the person you love without it dragging you into sex then it should not be done, fine.

But it is personal and specific to each individual.

For some it is playing with fire, for other more controlled people it is just a nice way of expressing love for the person you are courting.

It is up to each couple to set personal limits and stick to those.

Personally I would have no problem knowing my wife had kissed other men before we were married.
That is the standard I set and live by.

I'm not saying anyone here is wrong, if that's how you want it to be in your relationship, good for you. But it isnt a cover all for every couple.

Okay, how's this for a reason why it was a good idea for me NOT to have my first kiss at my wedding.... hehe. (This is going to sound bad [IMG] ) The first time a boy kissed me, I was so nervous that I threw up. Imagine that happening during your wedding ceremony. Whoops.
