To war or not to war?

Discussion in 'Youth Forum' started by Christian41974, Feb 26, 2003.

  1. What do you the other youth here think of the possible war with Iraq? How many of you watch news or stay informed some other way?

To war or not to war that is the question,
Whether tis' nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. Ok, aside from two words that is Shakespeare.

I believe there is no question as to whether or not America should go to war with Iraq. Sadam is a mad man, a tyrant, and a co-conspirator of Sep. 11th. It is the duty of our nation along with the rest of the free world to remove this terrorist from power. And any nation who opposes us should in this war should loose their standing as an ally to America. It's time those peace loving hippies in France and Germany wake up realize that sometimes in order to acheive peace, their must first be war. Its also time they remember what the US has done for them. We saved the French from Adolf Hitler and we brought down the Berlin Wall for the Germans.
May I remind everyone that France hasn't won a war in over 200 years! No joke, they've always counted on others to save them...

How bad a guy Hussein is does not determine whether we should go to war.

The question, it seems to me, is two-fold:

    1) Does Iraq have both the ability and immediate intention to attack the land of the United States,

    or

    2) Was Iraq behind the attacks on 9/11?

If either is the case, I say attack 'em.

But, I have seen no solid evidence of either, so at this point I do not have a good feeling about the possible war.

  4. Tape maker, I agree.
Jim, your points are good but Iraq does support terrorists(these terrorists are a threat to us and Israel) and they are anti-Israel. And I know the whole Middle East is ani-Israel but Iraq did bomb Israel in 91'. I do think war would be right the government has a bunch of evidence against Iraq for war but for security reasons we can't see them. I think we should take Sadaam out and we probably will.

JIm, what do you do with the photos showed on the news of the fast moving of things before the UN showed up?
And we've known since what, '91, or earlier that something wasn't right.
Hey if this guy is a friend of BinLoden I say let's run em out! He's had enough chances, and he's stouborn. Do you that a friend of mine was watching the history channel and they said that this nut had studyied dictators like Staland, and Hitler in school?! He's using the same tactics on those people over in the middle East.
We need to go get em. I have friends at school getting prepared to go. It does bother me that they are so young, and this summer they will be going into training go if they are needed. I had one of my teachers called out on active duty, and a man and his family from my church have gone out to Colorado on their army base to prepare. I do worry about the people I know going off, but I'll have to leave that in God's hands.
I say we go get that guy. I do wish innocent people wouldn't have to be killed if war came, but America kills innocent babies daily, so the liberals in polotics really shouldn't be crying about this particular issue.
If I were old enough I would consider going, couse then again, I'm so dense I'd be sure to do something wrong!

Abby, I'm not poking fun at what you said, but please consider the implications of what you have said.

Suppose you wre responsible for the decision to go to war, and you decided to do it. Suppose that when you stand befor God some day, He asks you for justification for a decision that resulted in, say, the death of 150,000 of your fellow human beings.

You say "I did it because they moved things before the inspectors got there".

See, you may have a legitimate complaint (or maybe not...more on that below). I don't like Hussein, I think he's a terrible dictator. But that doesn't justify a war. Wars should be fought in self defense, please re-read my post above for details.

As to the pictures that were offered for proof, there's something that bothers me:

If they have pictures of the whole thing happening, then why do they pretend that he hid the stuff and they can't find it? Just go by the pictures and hav a look.

Simple question...but why hasn't it been asked by those who are supposed to be responsible? Or has it been addressed and I missed it?

See, one of my problems is that the whole thing smells strongly of a lot of deception.

I am a firm believer that we should go to war. My theory is that you should avoid war at all costs, but when you make the decision to enter therein, your goal should change entirely. The new goal should be to break as many things and kill as many people as possible. That does not however, mean that I think we should go around killing innocent civilians and the like but it does mean that we should do our best to destroy their armed forces. Iraq has been given x amount of time to get x amount of things done and hasn't complied to the majority of those things. When it comes to a point where war is imminent as I believe it is, you should go into it to win. I believe Saddam is in league with terrorists and we have said that if you harbor terrorists, you are our enemy and will be dealt with accordingly. I think it will be such a bad time in America when they do attack us with biological weapons and the like and then the UN says "Wow, he really does have weapons" and we will say "DUH"
Basically to sum all that up, Yes, it is a time for war now.

Well said wolldog. I couldn't have said it better myself... [IMG] That sentiment sounds like someone else I know too.

War is a terrible thing. Let us all pray for President Bush. Let's all pray that war can be avoided. If it cannot, then let us pray for a swift and certain end to the war and that as few civilians as possible are injured. Let's pray that at the end of the day we can win the peace.

    Blessings,

    Archangel

lets see - N korea has weapons capable of hitting US and they have nukes
    They also support terrorists

    Iraq supports terrorists

Lets see by logic N Korea needs to be dealt with first as the more serious threat

Second point - America had a chance to remove Saddam in Gulf War - and they not only failed to do so - they refused to do so

Third point US - has been involved in the destruction of democracy in various countries over the world - overthrowing democracies for dictators - in fact the US at one time supported Saddam militarily and economically

SO while war with Iraq may be essential - the US is not pursuing this current affair in good faith

  14. Sularis ,my Canadian friend, do you and Canada have a solution to the Iraqi problem? Do you think we could send you boys in? You can criticise because you are not in the danger we are in. Our President has chosen to deal with Iraq first and then maybe North Korea. We are not going to switch directions now. Why we are taking out Iraq why don't you Canadians take out North Korea? Excuse me, if you think I am irritated but it seems as if many nations can do nothing but criticise the U.S and you don't have a better idea and you don't have the threats against you we do. Have we not been good to you? Have we not been good to France and Germany and many other U.N. countries? Yet you all seem to have turned your back on us.

CDGriffin - my old American friend - war with Iraq is essential

there have been times where you have been good
I agree - and Im not saying that war in Iraq is a waste of time I agree its necessary to fix that mistake the US made both in initially supporting Saddam - and then not finishing the job after Gulf War

but there have also been times where you have overthrown the very principles you claim to love

You refuse to understand historical principles

Is Germany going to support attacking a country that has already been beaten - and could easily be beaten again

Has France ever gone out of its way to start a war with anyone but the English - or disrupt oil shipments to itself or Russia

    No - of course not

None of the UN countries is in any danger compared to what the US is - but thats because you pay terrorists money - then you call them terrorists and try to kill them

Ive been insulted by Americans total lack of ignorance and treatment towards me and my country

and thats why America will always have problems overseas - because of their ignorance of others countries beliefs and values

And think of something else you have been blockading and sanctioning Iraq and yet they still managed to have build missiles that defy rules - they sent their airforce into Iran - and no one bothered to chase it down - in fact i wouldnt be surprised if all those planes are back in Iraq now

You want me to solve things - fine elect me president, and Id be bombing the daylights out of N-Korea - and telling Iraq yer next unless by God I see democratic elections enforced by international observers - and I want Saddam tried by Islamic law and then if found guilty executed - or if not exiled for a period of 2 elections. Of course in case of N. Korea - same conditions except international law instead of Islamic

I believe in gunboat diplomacy - but I also believe in prioritizing targets

I believe N Korea - is the greater threat - and should be dealt with first

    Acts 4v25-27
And by the Holy Spirit you spoke to our ancestor David. He was your servant, and you told him to say: "Why are all the Gentiles so furious? Why do people make foolish plans? The kings of earth prepare for war, and the rulers join together against the Lord and his Messiah." Here in Jerusalem, Herod and Pontius Pilate got together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel. Then they turned against your holy Servant Jesus, your chosen Messiah.

I am torn on this subject. I want the world to be a safer place but I dont think innocent people to be killed in a devasting conflict that will tear many families apart and not only leave physical scars but mental ones that no earthly person can heal or take away. So like i said i am torn what can i say....

Maybe we should make you President. I am sorry. The night I wrote my previous post I had seen some pro-communism war protestors on a news show saying our President would have to listen to them and the war protesters. Their attitude just made me mad ,and their points were not very good. I was not worried they were right just their sentiments made me angry.
America has supported in the past others who have turned out to be thorns in our sides. We have made mistakes but now we are trying to right them. And we should not be blamed for the attacks on us because we helped people who were our "allies"(sort of) at the time. How did we know they would turn their back on us? But again North Korea is the bigger threat but we have our troops in one place, we have started with Iraq and now we won't change. In 91' the problem was President Bush the father cared what the U.N. thought and did just what they allowed even when his advisors tried to tell him to take out Sadaam. America should move the U.N. out of America and maybe to Europe and we should not listen to them.
