    What kind of opposition, due to Christianity, do young people face today in school or at work? Some examples or personal stories would be great!

    it's not "cool" to be a christian these days! People like making fun of you because you are one. you see a lot of violence and hatered in schools today and that is all because we have let it! we need to wake up and fight for the cause of Christ. Is there not a cause anymore to fight?

    GOD BLESS AMERICA :confused:

    Well most of the school kids see me as a little old lady. I'm "Grandma" or "Preacher girl." {SOme things worse, but they are VERY offensive!} I've have a particular problem with this one group of boys. THey seem to just wait for me and a chance to be completly rude. Even teachers wonder at me it seems. People are forever asking if "I"m called to preach!" Help! Thankyou Lord I was born female and that wouldn't qualify me, but some don't seem to get that!
    Personal story? Ok, my Bible is very dear to me. THe most precious thing I own. I have it marked and noted, and it's just my personaly book. I had someone put it in the trash can one day. I think they did it to spite me {I know who did it, but I'm not going to ever say anything to her.} but it backfired. Everyone, includng janitors looked for it. We finaly found it, in a classroom trash can at the bottom.
    I also had a teacher last year who told me if I didn't wear pants to a proformance I couldn't sing. [I have a conviction about wearing dresses only, so i really get a lot about that!} I told her as kindly as I could that if she felt that way, I wouldn't sing. She blew up in front of the class and hollored "Why do you insist on being so diffrent?!" At least I got chance to wittness to about forty girls {all girls chourus for the whole school} and give my testimony. She looked afully emberrished, but didn't tell me till the day of the concert I could sing {skirt and all!} Later, she made a joke saying "We need to collect an offering to buy Abby some pants!" I was mortified, but you learn to get over things like that.
    I'm used to it now, and there's been worse. People come up to me all the time saying so and so started a rumor about me, but I always stop them and tell them I don't want to hear it. I don't care. Not anymore. If I've got Christ and He loves me, no one else's opinion matters. So now when I hear them hollor as I walk down the hall "Preach! Get em with the sword of the spirit!" I just smile. Might as well take it as a complement. God gives grace. My temper just dosn't always do what I want it to!
    Thank the Lord for a new day to start over!

    I never really had problems like this. My high school was way out there in left field, but because they were cool with everything, they were cool with me being a Christian too. There was another Christian at my school one year that took a lot of crap, but he was very naive about a LOT of things. Of course not everybody agreed with me, and debates happened, but it doubt it affected anyone's opinion of me.

    I get flak not for being a Christian, seeing as I live in practically the buckly of the Bible belt. I get flak for trying to be a disciple and letting the Bible guide me; I get it for -gasp- thinking the Bible to be inerrant! Sadly there are a lot of people who do the social Christianity thing here.

    Many of our Youth/Children's ministry have literally "taken over the school". The majority of our children go to the same school so on Tuesdays you see a sea of bright E3 T-shirts. The school even let us hang a banner in the middle of the gym. I teach the children that they are not odd-balls for being a Christian, yet the people that are NOT a Christian are. We shouldn't feel like the "odd man out" because we are believers. We should be the norm. But in the higher grades alot of kids and teens suffer from persecution. I have told them to be able to back up what they believe and challenge those that taught them but don't go as far as "casting your pearls before swines". So far it's working out pretty good. I had a youth get into a evolution/creation debate with a instructor at the high school and from what i've heard he held his own quite well.

    Creation and evolution {evil lution}what interesting debates that go on in that!
    A majority of Christians at a school? I'm so glad for ya'll! Consider it a blessing. No it shouldn't be the Christians who feel the odd ones, but when your one of like three thousand people {that's how many people go to my school} it's a little dificult to remember that. But my Lord is greater than anything. You know there may be more Christians out of a place that big, but I've yet to met them. It would be nice.
    And I know I'm little more odd than what most people expect in a Christian. I mena my own grandma tells me she wished I dressed more "stylish!" {Does that make me odd because I wear the same brand of clothes my great granny does? :confused: [IMG] }
    Oh well!
    Have a good day ya'll!

    I have no problem... but my town is practically a Christian community... there are a few who like to see us squirm... but I really haven't had a lot of problems

    though I did have a couple teachers in 9th grade who thought I was homophobic( :rolleyes: yes all of us figure skating fans are homophobic [IMG] ) but other than that...

    It's even bad in a christain school. i graduate from one and we had some opposition because of being a christian. That's because that person didn't really want to be there anyway... but it happens everywhere.

    God Bless America :D

    When I was in high school, I didn't necesarrily get "picked on" for being a christian, but, I sat at home on a lot of friday nights. I did have one guy who said that I was like the "pink haired lady" on TV, but I've changed since then. Actually, I wasn't even a real Christian. I was playing church. Then,2 years ago, I finally gave up and told God I'd had it with playing church and having "churchianity". Now, I'm in college, and it does get lonely sometimes becuase it's hard to find people that are real Christians in my very liberal school. I'm not involved with the campus ministries because I"m just too busy, and I never went much for those that substitute BSU meetings for church. Oh well..my real christian friends are at work and at church..we just need God to bring us some available guys. We have 2, and one is a very new Christian, and the other is annoying. LOL

    Abby,

    Just wanted to say i'm thanking God for your witness where you are! [IMG] And i know that Jesus is right beside you, hurting while you hurt.

    I know it is especially harder for a young person who wants so much to be accepted by her peers to make a stand for Christ. (Older people are just less concerned about what others think. :rolleyes: )

    You are not alone! Halfway around the world, there are young people also taking the stands you are taking for Christ (like wearing skirts.) Plus we have a whole "cloud of witnesses" in heaven cheering us on.... Keep pressing on!

    2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

    2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

    I'm only 18, but I've never really cared too much about what other people think or say about me. I have been picked on though, by friends at school and at church, actually. When I hear them say things like, "don't cuss around him, he's a Christian" or call me "Bible thumper" it doesn't really bother me; I just think of it as a compliment rather than a persecution. It tells me that I am living in such a way that others can tell I'm a Christian without knowing me very well. And I want them to know.
    Just keep the faith and don't worry about what other people think of you; it is what God thinks of us that is important.

    Good one! I really laughed when I read this! [IMG]
    I have been spending a lot of time on a skeptic's board. Most of the people are agnostic or atheists. I spread the Word Of God as much as possible. I get called names by some but I feel great joy that God's Word will not be silenced! One of my friend's daughter also wear only dresses. At first she would wear "old-fashioned grandma-looking" dresses. But then she discovered some more modern dresses and she looks wonderful. If you sense God calling you to only wear dresses then by all means wear dresses! Our God is a Wonderful God...

    LOL, church boy, I heard the "play" on words with "evil-ution" from an evangelist that came to my church once. It's stuck with me I guess! Seriously, you can have so VERY interesting disscusions with that! ;) :D
    And my dresses could be either old fashioned or more "in style" as my grandma says, depending on what I'm wearing. A lot of kids think me a little odd {they tell me that, so that's how I know! :rolleyes: :D } but I'm tired of worrying about it. IF they don't like it, that's tough. I'm serving God, not man. {And I'm not trying to sound mean, but that's about the only way I can think to put it.}
    Su, you are a dear blessing! I love ya sister! I love those verses. Sometimes at school I'll sit down and read those verses. It's a blessing to know my Lord goes with me no matter where I am. If He could go to Calvary for me, then surely I can handle my own trials. THankyou so much for your encouragement.
