Any other seniors getting ready for college? Where are you going? I guess by now most people have made their choices. This process is simply insane. Letters, recommendations, financial aid, essays, applications, deadlines.

I'll be attending Cedarville University in Ohio this fall for Electrical Engineering. [IMG] I've been homeschooled all my life, so I'm a little nervous about going into "real" school. Plus it's 9 hours away from home. Luckily I took a couple courses at our Community College this Spring, so at least I'm confident can handle college work. And to my surprise I'm capable of sitting in a hard chair listening to a professor for an hour and forty five minutes. [IMG]

Not a senior, but I am looking into colleges. Trying to get information about one in particular. I want to go to Tabernacle Baptist College which is pretty close by to were I live. Now if only they'd send that information they've told me they'd send..... [IMG]

My granddaughter just enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Oklahoma.

She was accepted to several universities, but chose this one.

Be sure to let me know if you do decide to come to OBU so I can give you my granddaughter's email.

She is too busy right now but hopefully after graduation she would have time to correspond.

My husband and I are going to Alaska the last week in May, but we are only cruising as far as Skagway.

The last time I was in Alaska, I went as far as Anchorage. You must be near there. Tell me about your weather. When I was there before it was August and very warm. It was so beautiful. I had no idea there would be so many flowers. And we saw so many whales, but not bears.

Oops, I'm getting off the thread.

Another thing I learned today that some Baptist Churches give scholarships and OBU will match up to $500.00 per semester. Thought I would pass that on.

I would like to chime in here about secular universities.

I know that many good Christian youth do not want to have anything to do with secular universities because of what can go on in them. As well, many parents and pastors absolutely ban their children from even considering a secular university.

However, as one who works at one, I can say that not all negative things are true about them, and in fact, secular universities can and do have a strong Christian presence in them, too.

I work at Florida State University, which has a rather, um, dubious reputation for wildness and partying. In fact, we always make the Top 10 Party School List in the Princeton Review every year, even holding the #1 spot a few times. And yes, there are more than a few atheists here.

But at the same time, FSU is a top-notch research institution, which has numerous programs that are considered the best in their respective fields. We also have an excellent sports program, including the greatest college football team around (GO SEMINOLES!). As well, we have excellent professors and staff who are always willing to help and guide students (myself, especially!).

But most importantly, we have many, many good Christians here. Quite a few professors and staff are Christians, and we have a strong Baptist Student Union. Yes, one will have his/her faith challenged in this environment, but at the same time it can be strengthened by these challenges. Though a handful of students may lose their faith at a secular university, many more will either discover their faith in Christ, or have their current faith enhanced in ways they never could have been done at a regular Christian university.

So to the youth out there, do not discount a secular university. They can be an excellent place for you to study in your post-secondary years and you will find the resources to uphold your faith in Christ.

OBU doesn't have my major :( Neither does SouthEastern but a lot of my friends are going and I think I need to be with friends for the first year at least...

Kenai is 3 hours south, by car, of Anchorage... We're the town in which the "Kenai Peninsula" is named. ;)
July and August are the best months up here! [IMG] May is really nice too... but still a bit chilly. right now we're getting into the 50s... but this year has been unseasonably warm(Texas got colder temps this year  ) Too bad about the bears... we used to have them in our backyard(we live in town so the Fish and Game trapped them and made them go bye bye)

Thanks for answering my questions, unashamedyouth.

What do you plan to major in?

I agree college is more fun when your friends go with you, but you will make many new ones.

I'm a senior in High school, and as the year is winding down I am still looking for colleges. I just decided my junior year that I wanted to go to college. My parents never saved for my education, so it's a little hard to find the money. As of right now I'm going to attend Vincennes University. It's about an hour away from my home town [IMG] I plan on getting my degree in teaching :D I would pass on this advice to all of us young people ;) As soon as you start having children or even before..start saving for their senior year and college!! It's expensive!!!
