Let us carefully consider Peter’s warnings

Peter was writing to the …
“elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit,
for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:2)
These special elect ones had been sanctified (set apart) for the Holy Spirit to work on
… while they were in the process of progressive sanctification unto holiness.
And, of course, their primary call was for obedience to God’s commandments.

Peter promised these special obedient ones, whose faith will endure God’s testing …
“an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in
heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to
be revealed in the last time. … you have been grieved by various trials, that the
genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes,
though it is tested by fire … receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls.
Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully,
who prophesied of the grace that would come to you …” (1 Peter 1:4-10)
They would endure in the faith through God’s fiery trials and be worthy of final salvation.
Their victory in being “overcomers” would only be possible through God’s grace
in the form of the precious Holy Spirit who indwelt them and guided them, etc.
(This special grace through the new covenant was not available in the old covenant.)

Peter instructed: be obedient, don’t sin, be holy, and trust in God’s grace …
“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully
upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your
ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” … you have purified your souls
in obeying the truth through the Spirit”(1 Peter 1:13-22)

Peter says God expects them to present their lives as spiritual sacrifices …
“you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5)
Which reminds us of …
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies
a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)

Peter explains what it means to be considered “righteous” …
“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God;
and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not
obey the gospel of God? Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?” ” (1 Peter 4:17-18)
IMO, there is a lot involved in obeying the gospel of God.

Peter says to imitate Jesus …
“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that you should follow His steps …” (1 Peter 2:21)
This imitating/following Jesus reminds us of …
“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne,
as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
