Hey, I'd rather be a legalist than an "illegalist." [IMG] (Must be a sick bird, huh? Ill-eagle. [IMG] )

Yes, that is why Paulsfocus isn't a legalist. He has been called that many times.

Unfortunately, legalism is also defined as a man-made structure of rules one must follow to be a Christian. I have seen/heard it way too many times in my life.

What clothes to wear.
How long you can grow your hair.
Who your friends can be.
What music you can't listen to.

If you step outside the lines, then "You must not really be saved".

If paulsfocus was not intending to sound like this, I do appologize. If he was, I'll not back down.

Never again, people, never again.

In Christ,
Trotter

Paulsfocus never said (or implied) that listening to Christian rock makes you unsaved, Trotter. He was only expressing his belief, quoting scripture to back up his opinion, on what kind of music he listens to. He never once mentioned it as a requirement for salvation (nor did anyone else). So I have no idea where the "legalistic" names came from!!

Yes Trotter, but what we are talking about is not man-made. It is what God said in His Word. Remember, God made us. He loves us which IS amazing and He also knows everything about us. Since He knows everything and loves us He told us what to do to protect ourselves. Sometimes we may not understand why God tells us to do or not to do something but since He is all-knowing, we can trust Him. That is why the Bible says that:

1John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

2John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

It is love both ways; God showing His love to us through His commandments (to protect us) and also it gives us the ability to show our love to Him.

No, if you step outside the lines does not mean that you are not really saved. But God does say in:

2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new.

When Christ saves a person he gives them a NEW HEART. We don't have the old heart. We don't dersire what we did before. He gives us a new "want-to." It is natural to us to do right. We want to please Him (back to the commandments.) We may occasionally step out of line but we have our new nature and the Holy Ghost pulling us, wooing us (because God loves us) back into line. The unsaved also have a nature and they have that nature pulling them back into the 'old nature' but they can actually stay out of their nature (doing right) longer than the saved can stay out of theirs (doing wrong) b/c the saved also have the Holy Spirit wooing them back into line. I hope that I am not being confusing.

1John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

1John 5:2,3 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

...and they aren't grievous when we realize what they are all about.

Psalm 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
Psalm 119:131 I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.

1. Deuteronomy 22:5
2. 1Corinthians 11:14,15
3. 2Corinthians 6:14
4. Ephesians 5:19
4. Colossians 3:16
4. Romans 12:2

The quote has to do with my past. I will never again be bound by someone else's hang-ups.

OK, tell me where the bible says that CCM is wrong. It doesn't.

All I am saying is this: I love CCM. It has the sound and beat that I need. If anyone else doesn't like it, that is their choice. But to listen to it is mine. Just so long as no one tries to look down on the fact, we'll all get along fine.

What gripes me is that most who condemn it have never heard it...at least, not the good stuff. I posted a link to a radio station that streams online. Check it out, hear what I listen to, and see.

In CHrist,

Trotter,

Could you please describe to me what type of CCM you are talking about; that you love?

Thanks,

Hey DeclareHim,

Could you please tell me what the difference is between these groups and the groups who do not claim to be christian? (i.e. appearance, music, presentation of who they are) I looked at the 3 links you had in the Music Ministry forum.(Kutless, 7 Places, Jonah 33) TTYL.

AZfiddler,

Here are a couple of links to the stations that I listen to. One is WAY-fm, the other is J103. WAY-FM has been the Dove Award winning station several times, and for the past few years, I do believe. J103 is out of Chattanooga, is local, and has a lot of advertising.

WAY-FM is more rock, while J103 is more pop.

>>>WAY-FM, Today's Christian Music<<<

All Your Favorites on J103

Both of these offer streaming audio, and both will work on dial-up.

Trotter,

Could you please answer the same questions that I asked DeclareHim? What the difference is between these groups and the groups who do not claim to be christian? (for example- appearance, music, presentation of who they are) Once I get an answer then I'll tell you what the Bible has to say about "Christian" Rock(pop and all the other stuff) - like you asked me to. :D

Alycia,

I have no idea what most of the groups/singers look like, in that I do not own a large collection of CD's, nor have I been to any of their concerts.

The ones that I listen to, for the most part, are outspoken Christians, who are not afraid to name the name of Jesus Christ. I have heard many of them interviewed, and all that I have heard were very vocal as to their beliefs.

I only know one song by Kutlass ("Sea of Faces", because it is on the charts). 7Places has had a song or two on WAY-FM, but I do not know them.

I like/enjoy Jars of Clay, DC Talk, FFH, Jeremy Camp, Matthew West, Crystal Lewis, Jaci Velasquez, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Mercy Me, Newsboys, Scott Kripaine, Todd Agnew, Avalon, Point of Grace...well, a lot of them.

I do not know the heavy metal bands, nor do I want to. I was into heavy metal when I was a teenager (KISS, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, and the like), but that was before I was a Christian.

As to what the bible has to say about music, it does not say much. Paul refers to psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, but we do not know what those songs were, or what they sounded like. Nor do we know what the songs used by the Hebrews in twmple worship sounded like.

Of course, we course, we could take the Church of Christ stance and denounce all music as ungodly, but I believe that music is an intergral part of worship.

I look forward to your answer of what the bible has to say about Christian rock. Not that it will change my views, but I do want to hear what you have to say.

In Christ,
Trotter

Their appearance is not a big concern of mine. I am not into judging someone by the way they wear their hair, or the style of their clothes.

Their music speaks to me, or I would not listen to it. Is it like other groups who do not claim to be Christian? Of course it is. As Ecclesiastes said, "There is nothing new under the sun."

As I said above, I have heard many of the artists I listen to being interviewed. They (the ones I have heard interviewed) are not ashamed to be Christians, and are very outspoken about it. They share the gospel at their concerts, and many are active in missions.

Don't mean to sound like that at all. Who am I to judge you? But I do judge the music by what the BIBLE says.

But the bible is silent in regards to styles of music.

You are posting in regards to your personal tastes and what you have been told.

Big difference.
