For the Coast Guard, war is just another natural disaster. So, the Coast Guard is the trained core of fighting men the Navy rallies around in time of war.

I'm a little farther inland, near Charlotte.
I had a barracks roommate named Midgett who claimed to be related to the Heroes of Chicamacomico.

It was said back in the day that if you were from Carolina Banks (even if you weren't a Midgett) the Coast Guard would send you back there after boot. The reasoning was it took a native knowledge of the rocks, shoals, and tides.

Guess I would be called an almostee. Did 4 in the Navy, got out, got married, had a kid and was very unemployed. Called the CG recruiter, and would have joined had the other half not had real reservations. Good thing, shortly after the Lord laid it on me to get to Bible school :)
