Would someone explain why implied (with the use of symbols, asterisks, and 'code words') vulgarity, swearing, and profanity is acceptable in the communication of a follower of Christ?

Ephesians 4:29, Ephesians 5:4, James 3:9-12, and others.

I can see doing that if you're quoting, i.e. a story where someone else has said something and you just don't want that type of language on the screen.

But we've got some foul-mouthed people on here, and some who seem to be getting more and more liberal with their speech on here and on social media.

Like I've said before, don't spit in my face and then call me Brother. Likewise, don't cuss me out and think that all is well just because you put in a #,@,!,or * in the word instead of spelling it out.

I'm in complete agreement with you Rolfe and it should not be the way Christians communicate and I don't care how mad you are. But it tells me what people have been putting in themselves if when squeezed that's what comes out.

Just a general observation of what seems to be an increase in this type of thing. Not necessarily all of it on this site.

What I am hoping for by asking the OP question is an explanation of how those who do it justify it. The practice, in my mind, seems against Scripture.

Yep. But they are angry so they feel it's justified. And it again goes back to what we've put in ourselves.

I've mentioned several times about how the church likes to go on and on about the proliferation of homosexuality in the movies and on tv, but doesn't say much about the "normalized" proliferation of gutterized heterosexuality in EVERYTHING.

And we do the same with foul language. We figure that it's not "that bad".

At this rate entertainment media(tv, movies, etc.) is becoming a lot like it is in Europe where they will show soft porn. And when we've got Victoria Secret Angels prancing around half dressed and nary a tv show that doesn't show or imply heterosexual fornication as though it is natural, I'm not surprised more and more folks who say they are Christians are talking like they aren't.

If you're watching and listening to the same things that lost, unchanged people listen to and watch, that's what is gonna come out.

There is not often that I will leave a conversation, or no longer support a ministry. When one engages in use of expletives even when quoting someone else or even substituting symbols, I consider it displaying a weak character.

I grew up with a father who couldn't put a sentence together without coloring, and even in my old age, the words fly back into my thoughts. But that is no excuse to use the words - even occasionally.

Now, I have heard that when some suffer strokes, that at times the lock on the gate of unacceptable and inappropriate speech is irreparably broken. I pray if that happens, God will grant me total silence rather than disgrace Him.

Why pick out one violation of the teachings of Christ over a boat load of other violations found in various posts on this board?

Perhaps the other "violations" are a little bit more subjective dependent upon who you ask. With the language, there's no question about it being a violation of the teachings of Christ.

Don't you think you should be a bit more specific?

Perhaps you can share the "boat load of other violations."

I don't journey away from the "Baptist debate forums" very often, and so perhaps you are witness to violations that I am not.

Do you think that foul language used by those who follow Our Lord is acceptable?

If there has been a rule violation all you need do is report it and the Admin council will address it.

If you don't report it, the onus is on you. Contrary to popular opinion the Administrators do not spend all day, every day, poring over every word, in every post, in every thread, in every section, of the Baptist Board. :)

Aaron- Do you think that the use of foul language, as described in the OP, is acceptable by one who follows Christ?

Do you say "urinateth against the wall," or quote the KJV directly and condemn that particular translation?

Languages evolve over time. "Piss" was a perfectly acceptable word in the early 17th century just as "damn" was. Today both are considered vulgar (which means "common" not "profane"). Today we use the currently acceptable words "urinate" and "condemn."

However, when I am reading aloud from the KJV I read "pisseth" and say "urinate." After 40 years in vocational ministry I have learned to be very careful of people's sensibilities. :)

And I never condemn any translation. To do so is to condemn not only the word of God, but, by implication, the God of the word.

The elevation and degeneration of words over time is fascinating.

And I agree with Baptist Believer, in that my keyboard is much easier to control than my tongue.

TC, your post made me think about an (KJO) IFB Bible conference I went to a few years ago. One of the pastors was saying that when he preaches out of the KJV, he can say the word "ass" (used 76 times in the KJV) - and then they started to laugh and joke about it.
Thus your statement . "After 40 years in vocational ministry I have learned to be very careful of people's sensibilities." meant a lot to me.

I don't think the Lord is offended by the s-word, if that's what you're asking.
