drinking

The problem that we run into is that lets say you are buying beer and a strugling alchoholic sees you buying it and desides to buy... you just made him stuble. I wont ever drink again. Before I ecommited my life to Christ I would drink (and I am also underaged) but when I made the decision to recommit myself I quit. A great sacrifice I would rather be drunk with The Holy Spirit than to be drunk with somthing man made.

 

Pr 20:1 Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Pr 31:4 [It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, [it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Re 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

if were to be kings and priests then the Bible says we are not supposed to drink it. i also think it would be a bad testimony

 

I will not drink for many reasons
1. I am too young to buy it that is a sin
2. I see no need to drink
3. It could ruin the witness I have built to others if they see me drinking they will not see what is different about me.
But that is the way I feel

I personally haven't taken a sip of an alcoholic beverage since I was saved.

I can't say that "Alcohol has never touched my lips since I received Christ as Savior," however, since when I'm down with the flu bug (I think the correct medical terminology is "The Crud"!), I have taken medicines such as NyQuil.

However, in some cultures (e.g., European) having wine with a meal, even in Christian family circles, is not considered anything unusual.

I say this not in a critical spirit but simply as an observation, that very often we here in American Christian circles assume that "our convictions on what constitutes sin" have been and always will be universally accepted by all people who name the name of Christ.

A deacon of a church to which I once belong I think had the best approach to this question.

You see, he was from Scandinavia and ran a business that specialized in importing and selling Scandinavian-style furniture.

Now, when his business took him back to his home area in Denmark, he thought nothing of being served wine when dining with his former pastor and family. No one else in that Danish community of Christians thought anything unusual about it either.

However, as a deacon of this fundamental Baptist church here in America, he never served anything stronger than coffee. [Have any of you ever TRIED Scandinavian coffee?? ]

Was he a "compromiser"?

I'm sure that some would classify him as such.

But not me.

"Eat what is set before you, and ask no questions for conscience sake."

 

Nyquil is 25 percent alcohol.

 

W - H - A - T !!!! .....Only 25%!!! Oh, that's right, you certainly must be referring to NyQuil Lite (Tastes Lousy...more filling!)

Seriously, though, I often wonder about preachers who claim to have never had even a sip of alcohol since they were saved, but, come cold and flu season think nothing of using NyQuil or its other generic varieties. (BTW, NyQuil isn't formulated to relieve any digestive-related symptoms [i.e., It should NOT be used for your stomach's sake!!!])

 

My insurance went to less than half when I stoped pastoring. Doesn't that tell you about what the insurance company thinks?

Believe it or not but I pastored a church where the deacons didn't like it when I told them I exercised in the middle of the afternoon. But they didn't like it when I asked them to go visiting with me too. But they always found time for golf.

 

I hate Ny Quill, only had it once and rebuked it. (That is the nicest term I could think of.) As for drinking I don't believe in it, if you drink it you will get addicted and want more, and more, until you are a full out drunk! My cousin went to AA, and that's what she learned there. She is a special person and she doesn't drink anymore now. And her quality of life is better.

 

NyQuil...that's some good stuff. I only take it if I'm really sick. And that's not often. I embrace the nyquil. LOL.

The Pepto on the other hand..I'll rebuke that if I have to. UGH!! that stuff's NASTY.

 

I can take benadryl and it makes me hyper.

 

Do yall fell peer pressure to drink? I will admit that I do. What is sad is that it is from friends who go to church every Sunday and are supposed to be living their life for Christ. (Both have made public commitments to Jesus.) I just keep saying no and try to talk them out of drinking. I also pray for them. Will yall too?

Suprisingly enough I have never been pressured to drink. I have been offered drugs in many forms, but never alcohol. How weird is that???

 

My brother-in-law tries to get me to drink, my sister made a bad husband choice, my father didn't approve of their marriage. It's a long story, but I never thought that the achohol looked appealing.

 

I have never been pressured to drink or do drugs..that I can recall..But It never really appealed to me either. Unfourtunatly I can say that I have tasted it..its nasty..and I have no idea why people like to drink it. Other than the sinfulness of getting drunk. Certainatly the Christian's I go to church with..would NEVER ask me something like that..because they dont drink either..nor have a problem with it.

My two best friends drink but they know how I feel about it and they do not offer. When they go out to drink they do not tell me or ask me to go because they know that I will say no.
